~10:41pm~ EST JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH ABILENE KINKOS: Bill Burkett has a standing account with the Kinkos in Abilene Texas, and while the lady who answered the phone would not be more specific she did say Burkett was in there last week - she waited on him on last (a week ago) Tuesday....

Someone else in another thread said they thought Burkett used a cane and a dog? Could anyone verify that? If so, he would have certainly had "help" on this project, if he's the source!
After a busy night of FAXing, Bill likes to cross the street walk into the local Blockbuster, and rent a good Kevin Bacon movie.
It's in the Wash Post story talking about reporters camping out at Burkett's house.
LOL. No..although I don't actually live in the city limits of Abilene, my initials aren't BB. I'm not real sure where Ben Barnes lives....he's originally from DeLeon (about 90 miles from Abilene)....probably Austin. Burkett lives in Baird, about 20 miles east of Abilene.
Yesterday reporters from several news organizations were camped near Blair, Tex., outside Burkett's home, which is on a working ranch, with a gate barring access to a one-story farmhouse and a pickup truck outside. At 6 p.m. Central Time, Burkett walked to the gate on his cane with a black dog by his side to collect his mail. He refused to answer questions over whether he provided the documents to CBS. "Get out my way," he told the reporters. "You need to go home." ...

Rather's behavior is bizarre and irrational, but that's nothing new. CBS ran this story without any real document verification and they were warned by two document experts. They apparantly duped Hodges to get him to "buy in". CBS was told by Killian's son and wife that the documents didn't ring true. CBS knew the fact that Killian's views on Lt. Bush in the fake documents contradicted Killian's views in already verified genuine documents.
I see no reason to assume CBS was using professionalism, ethics, standards, brains or just common sense to vet the source. There is such a thing as wanting something so bad you lose all judgement. I think they dreamed about this pony so long that they finally got it. Too bad for them the pony turned out to be an ass.
There is some interesting info in the following article that is relevant here I think:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A24635-2004Sep15_2.html
Here is the quote of interest:
"Burkett has provided different accounts of exactly what Bush records he allegedly saw in the trash can at Camp Mabry. At times, he has described them as "payroll-type documents" and performance assessments. But in an Aug. 14 posting to a Web log, www.steveverdon.com, he said he saw "a two-page counseling statement" signed by Lt. Col. Jerry Killian, the officer named by "60 Minutes" as the author of its Bush memos."
Note that on Aug. 14th he apparently revealed a new sort of document (i.e. "couselling statement") that he did not discuss before. I suspect that is around the time he composed one or more of the "Killian" memos.
Here's some history on this CBS story and its producer Mary Mapes. She previously worked at KIRO TV News in Seattle, where she ran into a conservative named John Carlson. Mr. Carlson recently stated that she had expressed hatred for then President George H. W. Bush. And she also loathed the Seattle Police and ran a story to paint them as "trigger happy".
Carlson is now a radio talk show host on 570 AM KVI, where on Monday he speculated Mary Mapes was likey behind this scandal...and his words have proven accurate.
Mary Mapes, went to Texas to meet Bill Burkett, who is probably behind the forgeries. I suspect Mrs. Mapes is using her position to malign our President Bush to turn the election in favor of Kerry. Personally, I think she did Bush a favor...this is backfiring on CBS & Kerry.
I don't remember seeing a fax stamp on this document.
Does anyone have a link?
Well, of course you just can't walk into the Abilene Kinko's and demand to see Burkett's account info.

Fasten your seatbelts rats, it's gonna be a bumpy ride.
I've always relied on my personal hunch, and since last Wednesday, my hunch has told me the group "Texans For Truth" are behind all of this, and not just a single individual.
Wouldn't the Texans for Truth bums use proper air national guard lingo?
Did you get the lady's name?
You guys are good!
I don't think any of the bums know the proper lingo for memo's. "Stupid Democrats" is a blatant oxymoron.
