~10:41pm~ EST JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH ABILENE KINKOS: Bill Burkett has a standing account with the Kinkos in Abilene Texas, and while the lady who answered the phone would not be more specific she did say Burkett was in there last week - she waited on him on last (a week ago) Tuesday....

Asked what role Mr. Burkett had in raising questions about Mr. Bushs military service, Mr. Van Os said: If, hypothetically, Bill Burkett or anyone else, any other individual, had prepared or had typed on a word processor as some of the journalists are presuming, without much evidence, if someone in the year 2004 had prepared on a word processor replicas of documents that they believed had existed in 1972 or 1973 - which Bill Burkett has absolutely not done - then, he continued, what difference would it make?
She may change her story when she finds out she just violated the federal privacy act. Let's hope we have something else for backup.
My law enforcement buddies always tell me that criminals are not the sharpest knives in the drawer.
I bet it went down somethng like this: Bill Burkett tells Dan Rather he has some memos. Dan can not believe his good fortune and tells him to send them ASAP. Bill stalls Dan and tells him he will send them in a couple of days.
Now, Bill may be a complete moron but he locates a old, used typewriter and starts typing up a forged document. He is probably a piss poor typist and can not even get the paper in the carriage straight. Well, he probably spends endless hours and days trying to make a decent forged document that does not look like a 13 year old's attempt to murder a piece of paper.
Meanwhile Dan keeps calling him asking him about the memos. Dan, totally exasperated, frustrated and anxious to get his hands on the incriminating evidence, tells Bill to fax the memos today or forget the whole thing. In sheer frustration Bill goes to his computer and prints out a forged document using MS Word and a laser printer. It looks too good so he rumples it up of few times then makes a copy of a copy of a copy...until he convinces himself it looks thirty-two years old. Then he just faxes the damn memos.
Dan gets the memos and just about craps his pants. He is so thrilled he does not even bother to notice the proportional spacing, kerning, superscript "th" etc. He just runs with it. Nobody ever accused Dan of being the smartest reporter on the planet. Busted!
Question 1: is yes
If the memos were typed at Kinko's, mightn't one of the Kinko's hard drives still contain the deleted copy? The forger doesn't sound all that geeky that he'd have thought about its ghost-presence. And would that particular Kinko's allow itself to be investigated?
I was Buckhead before I was KMC1.
place holder
CBS had these documents before Labor Day.
I can't find any campaign doantions for Burkett.
The only Burkett listing I can find is Jamie Burkett in Autin TX gave $65 to DNC.

It's possible that the forgeries were not the work of one person. The originator may have just put in a few things, other people added more, and finally sent the result to CBS.
Rather went with it because he wanted to believe, not because he checked it out thoroughly. Then when pressed, Rather (rather than admitting he was wrong and probably getting a Pulitizer for exposing the fraud) just acted insulted and stuck to his story.
Now Rather (and parts of CBS) can't afford (in what's left of their minds) to back down.
There is probably some intentional fraud and lots of wishful thinking by the Democrats.
KINKO the CLOWN!!!
speaking of Teresa, they LET HER LOOSE AGAIN AND SHE TALKED

NEW YORK - Teresa Heinz Kerry, encouraging volunteers as they busily packed supplies Wednesday for hurricane relief efforts in the Caribbean, said she was concerned the effort was too focused on sending clothes instead of essentials like water and electric generators.
"Clothing is wonderful, but let them go naked for a while, at least the kids," said Heinz Kerry, the wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (news - web sites). "Water is necessary, and then generators, and then food, and then clothes."
OMG! This is too F'kin funny! They are sooooo BUSTED.
So did Edwards.
Here's my problem with Burkett being the source.
WHY...WHY would CBS cover-up and stone wall to protect Burkett?
They could just say the guy is a "kook" and "disgruntled" (which are true) and say he played a hoax on them and they fell for it. We're sorry...never happen again...blah, blah, blah.
It does not make sense to me that CBS and Dapper Dan are willing to "sink the ship" and go down with it themselves, to protect this guy.
There had to be some other involvement by somebody higher up the Dem food chain for them to risk this kind of embarrassment.
Your post No. 53 is EXACTLY CORRECT.
Have you seen this.. I'm sure it's been posted but I haven't seen it yet.. http://michael-friedman.com/archives/000139.html
Doesn't Ben Barnes live near Abilene, Texas too. When his daughter talked to Hannity last week, she said he was angry at her that she was speaking out against him and that he was going to get a position in the Kerry administration somewhere if Kerry won. So there is incentive for him to lie and forge.
Let's not let the DNC make Burkett the mental case the scapecoat if the real forger is Barnes. Does Barnes have an account with Kinkos? Was Burkett alone when he entered Kinkos last week or was he with someone else who would "help" him?
