John Kerry Campaign Hires Fired Worker
POSTED: 9:06 am EDT September 15, 2004
DETROIT -- Democrat John Kerry has a new campaign worker helping him drum up support in Alabama after hiring a woman who was fired for displaying the presidential candidate's bumper sticker on her car.
Kerry called Lynne Gobbell on Tuesday after reading a newspaper story describing how she had been fired last Thursday from her job packing cellulose insulation at a Moulton, Ala., plant.
Gobbell said her former employer had told her she could either work for him or Kerry. She said Kerry told her, "Let him know that as of today, you're working for John Kerry." "He was proud of me for standing up for what I believe in," the newly employed, 41-year-old said of her quick phone call with the candidate.
Gobbell said Kerry didn't offer too many details about her new position. She will be helping the campaign and may be traveling a little as it gets closer to the election.
She could receive help from another corner, as well. A liberal Web site, AMERICAblog.org, began raising money for Gobbell on Monday night after learning of her dismissal. John Aravosis, who runs the site, said he collected $1,800 over a 24-hour period.
How so?
Good for her. Her employer was a jerk.
Your screen name says it all.
That's because she wasn't fired, she quit.
Besides, she wasn't fired, she quit.
She wasn't fired, she quit.
See post #42. In his employ, First Amendment Rights have ZERO to do with anything. She serves at his pleasure; he can fire he with no cause. Buy a clue.
..and eater of a substance known as 'chili"
Isn't it amazing that some folks automatically believe this horses**t. Another disenfranchised liberal. Those of us on the right are just MEANIES. I, for one, don't believe a word of it.
It doesn't matter who owned the parking lot property. The woman was an employee and there were no restrictions on employees parking there cars there. The car belong to the woman and the bumper sticker is a semi permanent attachment and a display of her federally protected free speech right under the 1st Amend. The employer intimidated her, threatening job loss if she didn't remove the sticker. That's a fed crime under 18USC245 as posted above.
Her ex-employer was a jerk. She raised such a stink about being fired that John Kerry hired her to work on his campaign. Not only does it make her ex-employer look like a flaming A-hole, the negative publicity isn't helpful to the Bush campaign, which needs all the positive help it can get right now.
Get it?
BS.
I have a feeling there was more than a bumper sticker involved here.
MM
No political clothing is something where he would be on much firmer ground but it would extend to the parking lot and the cars parked there. Most places have a "no alcohol on company grounds" policy even when the bottles are sealed and locked in your trunk so there certainly is president for this.

Nope. Tell me Ladylib, do you think John Kerry is a "war hero"? You are typical of the Kerry Kool-aid drinkers. The Lamestream media puts out a story and it's automatically 100% true? Tell me, what flavor of Kool-aid is preferred by liberals?
Democrats come in five flavors, thieves, sex perverts, communists, demons from hell, and imbeciles.
She looks like she fits into the last category.
Baloney. You don't undserstand the law. The employer is not stopping her from voting. If she won't abide by his policies at work, he is in his right to fire the fat commie pig. Too bad more employers don't do the same thing.
Here's a link to the original story.
The boss sounds like a fairly intolerant dude.
She's a former cellulose packer?
Kerry called her because he needs someone to pack his botox! ;-)
What's so "extreme" about not wanting someone to advertise for a political candidate that you don't support on the property you own?
And the only one who carried it anywhere is her.

The complaint from the story:
"We were going back to work from break, and my manager told me that Phil said to remove the sticker off my car or I was fired," she said. "I told him that Phil couldn't tell me who to vote for. He said, 'Go tell him.' "
She went to Gaddis' office, knocked on the door and entered on his orders.
"Phil and another man who works there were there," she said. "I asked him if he said to remove the sticker and he said, 'Yes, I did.' I told him he couldn't tell me who to vote for. When I told him that, he told me, 'I own this place.' I told him he still couldn't tell me who to vote for."
Gobbell said Gaddis told her to "get out of here."
"I asked him if I was fired and he told me he was thinking about it," she said. "I said, 'Well, am I fired?' He hollered and said, 'Get out of here and shut the door.' "
She said her manager was standing in another room and she asked him if that meant for her to go back to work or go home. The manager told her to go back to work, but he came back a few minutes later and said, " 'I reckon you're fired. You could either work for him or John Kerry,' " Gobbell said."
I said, 'Well, am I fired?' He hollered and said, 'Get out of here and shut the door.' "
Sounds to me like she fired herself. The owner's opinion might be a little off, but her attitude needs some adjusting also. She'll fit right in with the sKerry campaign.
