Hurricane Ivan appears to be strengthening and heading towards the metro area, the 34th biggest city in the USA which now under curfew.
Police will track down stragglers and take them to jail.
Folks with special needs may go to the Louisiana Superdome.
There will be a mayoral press conference shortly.
Good luck and god bless to the big easy and all others in Ivans path.
< asbestos suit> Better than being under water.......................
It's turned to the NW?
It appears so, this could be terrible..
If the crap hits the fan in NOLA, there are gonna be a lot of people happy that the AWB is no longer in place so they can defend their property and family.
"my way or Nawlins"--9/13/04

In between Rus's segments, CLear Channel announced they have a correspondent in the French Quarter, hunkered down for the duration.
Anyone who is under cover should be okay, but the evacuations are being enforced, and the same conditions for 911 assistance (you're on your own) as were in FL are in effect.
Now, from MY channels:
Nat'l Guard and FEMA assets are already in place. There was sufficient warning to get MSCA assets positioned. The first task is to keep essential services from going offline (power, water, comms), or to restore them ASAP; then SAR (as few as possible, we hope); then Civil Disorder (looters and area security). Every state has this disaster SOP as part of its plans.
As long as citizens don't do anything stupid, we shoudl see a low casualty count; can't say the same about the property losses. Be Careful!
Prayers up..
Average White Band?
Is New Orleans evacuating yet?
OK now ... this post will REALLY win me a lot of Friends at Free Republic.
The following comments-observations are based upon my twenty (20) year residence in The Big Greasy, from 1969 to 1989, when I graduated from the University of New Orleans with a Mechanical Engineering degree.
So here we go ... NOLa has some of the dumbest, laziest folks north of Jamacia and Haiti.
Watching the antics of the local politicians (elected by the Cajun-Boogelee proletariat) would make even Hardened Veterans of New Jersey politics shudder.
NOLa and the "Louisiana Hayride" politicians (starting with Gov. Edwin "The Cajun Crook" Edwards #issed away literally billions of oil-money revenue during the 1970-1980s Oil Boom.
All they had to show for it was a NOLa Domed Statium whose roof leaked.
The graft and corruption really got cranked-up under the administration of Ernst Morial, NOLa's first black mayor. What ever there was left to damage after his eight years in office, was subsequently destroyed by his moronic son, who was the epitome of a black puppet dancing on his owner's strings.
When the Oil Boom left, NOLa decided that Gambling was the Future, as opposed to real jobs for real people.
However, the body politic of NOLa and Louisiana were so inept that GULF PORT (Mississippi) eventually eclisped (sp) NOLa as the "Gambling Mecca" of the Gulf Coast.
What's the point of this short treatise on New Orleans ?
The folks are collectively so stupid and lazy that a 25,000 dead casualty figure (previously mentioned tonight) is quite concievable.
Did any of you Free Republic folks hears hold certain Jamacian residents were actually shooting at Rescue Workers when Hurrican Ivan flattened their island two days ago ?
That's NOTHING compared to what'll happen if Ivan hits The Big Greasy.
Half of Orleans Parish will be partying on the Dual Mississippi River Bridge spans, shooting Sidewinder missiles at the Rescue Boats and Helicopters.
Well ... That's My Story, and I'm Stickin' to It ...
