They do. I've overheard people talking about it, and games to get free auto repair. I just don't understand their seeming pride.
As far as the people trying to return plywood, that's silly.
Per WPMI-TV Mobile: ALL SHELTERS IN MOBILE COUNTY ARE FULL.
Yeah, and it's showing a fairly broad area of circulation, and is about where Ivan formed.
The 1515zulu satellite photo shows the eye NNW of the predicted point for that moment. So it's moving a little faster and slightly west of forecast.
I am glad to finally see a case where FEMA actually helped. May I ask what state you were in?
The right side has more surge, because of onshore winds, as well as stronger winds, because you add the speed of the forward motion of the storm to the wind speed. It follows that you'd also subtract the speed of the motion from the wind speed on the weak side, but I have never heard that said.
Not sure about the effect of the friction of the land on the weak side. Makes sense that it could have an effect, though it didn't seem to count for much with Andrew.
Significant wave heights are the average height (wave top to trough) of the highest 1/3 of the waves. One out of a thousand of those waves will be about twice the significant wave height. Now that is awesome.
Where is Lakeshore Drive? Town, city, state . . . anything like that might help the rest of us . . .
Still not going north as ordered. How many hours left? 200 miles/12mph.....16?
TY for taking the time to post these links.
Very helpful.
Thanks. Yes, I was thinking about the wind damage and forgot about the surge. It does make sense that the onshore wind would affect that as well.
Are those little laptop computer icons from the 1970's on the yellow pair? That's the pair I want.
Lakeshore Drive in New Orleans, Biloxi bayou reporting 15 ft waves..
Chicago, Illinois. Ivan is a huuuuge storm. ;)
I was thinking about this last night. Because of the odd shape of the coastline, with the way LA projects out to the SE into the Gulf and the way the mouth of Lake Ponchatrain faces East, the NE Quadrant thing may not be entirely correct in this case. I am now concerned that the whole area north of the eye would be a bad deal. Consider the East to West long shore currents which must be developing right about now. Just a thought....
Gotta love the Sears catalog.. 30-50+ ft waves reported out in the Gulf
Is there any webcam of the coast of N.O. ?
Both Lake Jordan and Lake Martin north of Montgomery have opened thier dams to maximum flow, the Alabama River is already visible rising in Montgomery.
