The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Muslim group takes responsibility for 9-11: 'We are so sorry'

This September 11 marks the third unforgettable anniversary of the worst mass murder in American history.

After September 11, many in the Muslim world chose denial and hallucination rather than face up to the sad fact that Muslims perpetrated the 9-11 terrorist acts and that we have an enormous problem with extremism and support for terrorism. Many Muslims, including religious leaders, and "intellectuals" blamed 9-11 on a Jewish conspiracy and went as far as fabricating a tale that 4000 Jews did not show up for work in the World Trade Center on 9-11. Yet others blamed 9-11 on an American right wing conspiracy or the U.S. Government which allegedly wanted an excuse to invade Iraq and "steal" Iraqi oil.

They certainly appear to be poised for action with whatever alliance they have formed. Their arrogance/confidence level is increasingly high and quite defiant.

Thanks. As you well know, I had to take a few days away and de-stress.

Has anyone posted the outcome of NK allowing "outsiders" to view the blast site from their hydro-electric construction detonation? Something I read in the doctor's office suggested it may have been a nuclear detonation after all. South Korea is saying the international observers were taken to a site some 60 km from where the actual blast took place. Will try to find the source for this info.

Thailand vows to get tough on separatist rebels

BANGKOK - Thailand signalled yesterday that it is poised to launch a new tough front against militants in the country's strife-hit south where more than 310 people have been killed this year in separatist violence.

The military would get more tanks and the defence minister has been given an overarching command role to tackle the worst crisis faced by the present government.

The Thai authorities have been rocked by the killing of a judge last week, the most high-profile victim of nearly nine months of attacks during a resurgent separatist uprising in the country's Muslim-majority southern provinces. (snipped)

Sounds like another Chechnya -- violence perpetrated by Islamic majority separatists.

Not sure who owns the site - Possibly another TMer? Seems to be long to a younger person since there are files related to Star Wars games. I visit the site when there is some sort of breaking news since the owner tends to post related files within an hour or two.

South Korea says there was no explosion in North Korean county / AP September 17, 2004 SEOUL, South Korea

South Korea said Friday that a massive explosion previously reported to have created a mushroom cloud in North Korea did not take place in the area that was originally pinpointed.

The huge cloud — initially detected by South Korean intelligence authorities and widely reported as smoke from an explosion by South Korean news media — is believed to have been a natural cloud, said Deputy Unification Minister Lee Bong-jo.

‘‘We believe that there was no explosion in the place where intelligence authorities had previously suspected that there were signs of an explosion,’’ Lee said.

‘‘We believe that the explosion described by North Korea took place in Samsu County, about 100 kilometers (60 miles) from the originally suspected site, and has to do with a hydroelectric project,’’ Lee told a regular news briefing.

‘‘Yesterday, North Korea escorted diplomats from seven countries to the hydroelectric construction site,’’ Lee said. ‘‘We understand that the North Korean authorities told the diplomats that there were two blasts at the time in question.’’

The size of the reported explosion and its timing on the 56th anniversary of North Korea’s founding had raised speculation that it might be a nuclear test. Experts say they don’t believe the blast near the Chinese border was such a test.

North Korea acknowledged there was a massive explosion on Sept. 9 but said it was part of demolition work for the hydroelectric project in Samsu County. On Thursday, it allowed Britain’s ambassador and other diplomats in Pyongyang to visit the site of the project to verify its claim that the blast wasn’t caused by a nuclear test.

Flight diverted after singer Cat Stevens found to be on government watch list

WASHINGTON (AP) — A plane bound for Washington from London was diverted to Maine on Tuesday after passenger Yusuf Islam — formerly known as pop singer Cat Stevens — showed up on a U.S. watch list, federal officials said.

United Airlines Flight 919 had already taken off from London en route to Dulles International Airport when the match was made between the passenger and the watch list, said Nico Melendez, a spokesman for the Transportation Security Administration.

The plane was met by federal agents at Maine’s Bangor International Airport around 3 p.m., Melendez said.

Federal officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, identified the individual as Islam.

One official said Islam, 56, was identified by the Advanced Passenger Information System, which requires airlines to send passenger information to U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s National Targeting Center. TSA was then contacted and requested that the plane land at the nearest airport, the official said.

“He was interviewed and denied admission to the United States on national security grounds,” said Homeland Security spokesman Dennis Murphy. He said the man would be put on the first available flight out of the country Wednesday.

Islam, who was born Stephen Georgiou, took Cat Stevens as a stage name and had a string of hits in the 1960s and ’70s, including “Wild World” and “Morning Has Broken.” Last year he released two songs, including a re-recording of his ’70s hit “Peace Train,” to express his opposition to the U.S.-led war in Iraq.

He abandoned his music career in the late 1970s and changed his name after being persuaded by orthodox Muslim teachers that his lifestyle was forbidden by Islamic law. He later became a teacher and an advocate for his religion, founding a Muslim school in London in 1983.

Islam recently condemned the school seizure by militants in Beslan, Russia, earlier this month that left more than 300 dead, nearly half of them children.

In a statement on his Web site, he wrote, “Crimes against innocent bystanders taken hostage in any circumstance have no foundation whatsoever in the life of Islam and the model example of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.”

Chechen Rebels Offer $20 Million Reward for Putin
You can tell a lot about a man from who his enemies are. I'm getting to like Putin more all the time. Clearly the Chechens know he means business. From the VOANews, with thanks to Jeff Lastname:

Chechen rebels are offering a $20 million reward for the capture of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
A Chechen separatist web site posted the offer of a bounty Thursday, a day after Russia offered $10 million for information on the whereabouts of two Chechen separatist leaders, Aslan Maskhadov and Shamil Basayev, whom Russian authorities accuse of masterminding the Beslan school tragedy.

Muslims, whether Chechen or not, it makes no difference, are convinced that allah is on their side and final victory is theirs. Even if they are killed and do not see the final victory from earth, they are absolutely convinced that they will go to paradise and will see the final victory from there. It is this that gives them the confidence to issue a warrant like this on Putin.

How does one counter this completly crazy mindset. Well, in much the same way one humours a mentally unstable individual. We play to this theme. They have to be eliminated and then buried with materials they regard as unclean.

If the Chenchen people are so poor and oppressed
how can they afford to pay out 20 Million! Don't tell me - they're being backed by the Saudis or they're lying about being poor. So Putin is worth
20 Million but the lives of those poor little children in Beslan were worth nothing and could be snuffed out asking for a drink of water. Putin is a clever man and ruthless, which you need to be
when dealing with that Death Cult called Islam. Will put my money on Putin to survive and kill
Basayev and Maskadov before they get him...

The Chechens are poor and oppressed in the same manner and for the same reasons as are the Palestinians: for Muslim advantage in promoting Islam and to ressurect the Caliphate.

Do you remember the decree issued by Ayatolla Komeini to have Salmon Rushdie killed because of his book The Satanic Verses? I need one issue clarified. Did Cat Stevens make a statement that Rushdie should be killed?

"Did Cat Stevens make a statement that Rushdie should be killed?"

Cat -- Yusuf Islam -- did make a statement backing up what Khomeini said about Rushdie's book, yes.

Way back then there were feeds from Mexico and other countries that showed the "raw" news as it occurred. Wouldn't be a bad thing today - and an in process mistake or two would clearly show the news was more "honest" than what we've come to expect from our networks' less than clever rewriting and propounding of the stories they WANT us to hear.

Ridge: Terrorists may disrupt November elections

Intelligence shows that terrorists have "an indication of intent" to disrupt the November election, Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said Tuesday at a symposium in the Poconos.

But Ridge said officials can't pinpoint the who, what, where, when or why of the threat.

Nevertheless, the former Pennsylvania governor said he rests soundly at night, knowing that the nation's security is improved.

Ridge also said Pennsylvania's nine anti-terrorism task forces are a national model for how states should work regionally to get the most out of their anti-terrorism buck.
