Keep up the good work. ABC did a lousy job of coveering it yesterday and I never heard the story on CNN, but tonight I heard the story covered on Headlines News and they actually did a fairly decent job.

Wae have to keep this story alive, because the press is trying to bury it.

I think that who ever generated these false documents should have given them to Sandy Berger. Atleast he would have stuffed them in his underwear and that would have been the end of it.

Geesh! Where is Sand Berger when you need him?

Just in case you didn't see this, take a look.

Is there any question CBS was complicit in this and not duped? I think not.

Well if you can't trust the word of "a senior CBS official, who asked not to be named", who can you trust?

So it appears CBS was lying, Hodges was not "familiar with the contents" or even their existance. He was offering testimony to the integrty of Lt Col Killian only, not the documents CBS falsely claimed to have.

In just two days this episode has become **MEMOGATE**.

Instead of a "third rate burglary" bringing down a President, this is a third rate forgery that may well bring down the mainstream media and the "fellow travelers" in the DNC who feed them their tripe.

And to think you FReepers were the cops that caught the evil-doers.

You know what.. .the rules will never be the same in politics and elections again.

An interesting sidebar: Hodges, while in the Texas National Guard (Bush's unit), was flying the F102 (Bush's aircraft) in Vietnam in the month George Bush began his basic training!

Great catch and reporting!

This is especially important since in tommorow's WashPo story Rather himself cites Hodges in his defense of the story. Here is the excerpt:

In a lengthy interview, Rather stressed that CBS had talked to two people who worked with Killian in the Texas Guard -- his superior, retired Maj. Gen. Bobby Hodges, and his administrative assistant, Robert Strong -- and both described the memos as consistent with what they knew of Killian. Hodges, who told CBS he was "familiar" with the documents, is an avid Bush supporter, and "it took a lot for him to speak the truth," Rather said.

Keep up the good work!

Lessee, it's 11:16 pm September 10th...I'm gonna go out on a limb here and predict that Rather is out of a job by this time next week.

He said "I Know" these documents are true. If his employers keep him they lose cred. No cred no advertisers.

Dan Rather decided to ride out this hurricane. He's now sitting on a 4'X7' piece of what's left of his roof and racing down the severely swollen SOL creek.

Your post on a thread from yesterday:

Still, I'd feel better if Gen. Hodges would just come out and deny the Post story. Maybe he'll do that tomorrow.

My response:

I agree that would be helpful, but I don't think it's going to happen. CBS was stupid to run the story, but I don't think they're stupid enough to fabricate quotes from their authenticity "trump card".

Wow - do you have a crystal ball or what?! And I was completely wrong - CBS is way more stupid than I thought they could be! I've learned my lesson.

Note that the documents that everyone is analysing are the pdf documents that CBS put on their website.

Their own document expert tells CBS that he has concerns about authenticating a document that has deteriorated, yet instead of first getting a copy of the original memos and authenticating them, CBS and Dan Rather unprofessionally and unethically decide to air the story based on copies of the memos that CBS say are [deteriorated] photocopies.

Holy Alternative Scenario! What if Killian really did author that stuff, but only in handwritten notes that someone, possibly family member or acquaintance, got hold of and passed to Ms Mapes, in the course of her 4-year quest to finally nail the illegitimate President. Mapes figured handwritten notes wouldn't work, so she or some youth with only the barest idea of military correspondence concocted the fakes on a computer.

Yeah right and CBS is claiming Hodges misled them. It keeps getting better. The Rats have one foot in the grave and it won't take much for the other foot to get there.
