HODGES SAID HE WAS MISLED BY CBS
Noted Now - ABC News The Note ^ | 09/11/04 | ABC News The Note

Posted on 09/10/2004 7:42:49 PM PDT by Ed Zoekuiper

Retired Maj. General Hodges, Killian's supervisor at the Grd, tells ABC News that he feels CBS misled him about the documents they uncovered. According to Hodges, CBS told him the documents were "handwritten" and after CBS read him excerpts he said, "well if he wrote them that's what he felt."

There are no handwritten documents.

I sincerely hope that's the case. (BTW, in my scenario, the handwritten docs are ALSO forgeries; I may not have made that clear)

That's my thoughts too. Very few pilots get purple hearts while still alive.

Your theory is sound, IMO.

Taken at apparent and reported face value thus far, this scenario is preposterous.

So what do we know about Robert Strong? Is he a Kerry Democrat? Right now it appears he is the only person from the unit supporting Rather's story.

Robert Strong is not only a Kerry fundraiser, he is co-chair of some part of Kerry's campaign. I would have to do a search to find his exact title. None of this bothers Rather, though.

Logically, it makes no sense at all, but from a PR standpoint, it's brilliant: we will have shot our bolt attacking documents that ultimately aren't the ones they are relying upon.

I think you give them far too much credit for intelligence. They've been waffling too long not producing any such handwritten original. The duplicity of suddenly flashing the smoking handwritten letter would look even more suspicious, and it's very doubtful that Killian, in his easily checked handwriting, would have written such things so completely contrary to all his known sentiments regarding the Bushes.

I love it! So the only witnesses that Rather has are a handwriting "expert" that the Clintons used in the Vince Foster murder, and the co chair of Kerry's campaign? LOL

BTW does anyone know exactly what Robert Strong did at the TANG? What exactly was his rank and who did he report to? Anyone know?

How can they produce handwritten memos after they were defending the typed memos as authentic and written using a typewriter (of course it is a lie) in 1972 and 1973??!!!!

"None of this bothers Rather, though."

Why should it? Rather, himself has spoken at Dem. fundraiser in Texas. He is thick with many Dems. in Texas and is a SHILL FOR THAT PARTY!! Of course, he and CBS NEVER, EVER MAKE DISCLOSURES ABOUT THEIR CONNECTIONS AND ABOUT VIACOM!! NATIONAL ENQUIRER HAS MORE CREDIBILITY CAUSE THEY DON'T TRY TO TRICK ANYONE.

"Actually, they told him they WERE handwritten."

Maybe they knew that LTC Killian did not know how to type.

It is not likely that they have original memos in LTC Killian's handwriting. Not at all. Those would be in his personal files which the family has. People don't copy and distribute handwritten notes to other officers (the alleged source); a typed memo COULD have been copied and given to someone else - some other officer - hypothetically.

"Hodges abandoning ship? "

He wasn't even on it. They "used" him life they used LTC Killian.

He is now saying: I will NOT be USED!

His reaction was the same thing mine was when I first saw the "memos": hey, if that is what the guy wrote, that is what he thought at the time.

(no biggie, however, because nothing in the memos-to-himself change anything about Lt Bush's honorable service in his official service file)

Is this due to repeated coping?

Most likely yes. If you look very closely at the same letters and numbers in the CBS memos they don't even look exactly the same. They have little blurs and fuzzy areas around them. What the MS word overlap proves though is that every single letter from Word matches up precisely on top of where the memo's letters should be - which means that the memos letters were autocentered and assembled using a word processor in default settings and fonts.

"Even if everything in the memos were true, I still don't see anything that would be fatal or even damaging to Bush"

That was my reaction exactly. These memos to self are totally innocuous.

Then I heard that Rangel was FABRICATING a tie between the "missed physical" and DRUG USE!

That was likely why they wanted the memos "discovered."

A plant of a missed physical. Implied "Direct order disobeyed". Must have been a serious reason for him to disobey a direct order . . .

IOW SICK beyond my imagining. Total spin. ASSIGN a reason for an innocuous missed physical to assassinate a man's character.

Has there been any confirmation of the 34567 po box? The question was raised in prior posts but this should be easy to confirm?

Yes and yes

"we had Clinton . . . "

Clinton was, by all accounts (not IMO!) a likeable oaf.
People (NOT ME) wanted to believe him, or at least for people to leave him be.

Reagan was likeable. Remember the Dims called him Teflon because they could not, hard as they would try, get anything to "stick" to him. In their own way, they were as frustrated about Reagan as we were about Clinton.

However, Bust is congenial, real, unassuming, LIKEABLE.

Kerry is shrill and NOT really sympathetic to Joe and Mrs Sixpack.

So . . . don't worry, it's not the same thing . .

I'm not predicting what will happen to Rather, but I believe Bush will not be hurt and Kerry will be . . . Rather is rather irrelevant to that by this point . . .
