My only question is why is the WH (Bush) acting so strangely about this?..."the White House, which contends that all known records of Bush's service have been released, also took the unusual step of distributing the CBS memos to reporters the night of the broadcast" Shouldn't they come out swinging...if they know these are fake?

Why would Bush involve himself in this? He's busy being President.

The WH was faxed these memos the night before. They were from a secret file from a secret source. They were not part of Presidents' official file. CBS told them what they were and the WH took them at face value. A major network certified to them they were real.
The fact that they didn't question makes CBS look even worse. If WH ranted and raved and accused CBS of forgery it would be turned around so quick that they planted it - even more than it is now.

EXACTLY!!!! McClellan says "we don't know" whether the documents are fake or real? What kind of imbeciles are they?
To: croixjr
Which is more compelling, to have the opposition prove the documents false or those on the same side as the perpetrators? A brilliant and risky gamble for the WH. They banked on the natural competitiveness between the news networks.

Sounds to me like they knew exactly what they were doing. The Kerry campaign could not possibly be more over.

I agree with you. The fact that they haven't denied it nags at me too.
