It's not just wrong to fabricate lies about a sitting president, it strikes me (and I'm no lawyer) that is also illegal to fabricate government/military documents. It is illegal to steal signatures. It is illegal to impersonate an officer. It is illegal to libel/slander a citizen. It is illegal to run a grift operation.
For CBS it should generate a congressional investigation into abuse of their privileged access to the people's airwaves.

Interesting point about the possible federal charge of forging military documents. Putting on my devious lawyer hat, the scummiest defense is that these forgeries are not real military documents and did not come from any military source.
I have seen (not done by me) a defense to a drug-dealing charge that the dealer said "The law doesn't apply to me, because I was selling talcum powder as heroin." LOL.
