George W. Bush was born July 6, 1946, and thus fell within the group covered by the 12/1/69 lottery drawing.
The lottery number for men with July 6 birth dates was 327 The highest lottery number called for this group was 195; all men assigned that lottery number or any lower number, and who were classified 1-A or 1-A-O (available for military service), were called to report for possible induction.

"I don't understand why the RNC has not demanded that military intelligence investigate whether alleged military documents have or have not been forged: certainly a violation of military regualtions and/or federal law."
I thought I heard Tony Snow or someone say the Whitehouse had asked military experts to look at the docs. Could be wrong, but am sure I heard it.

I can tell by the small amount of size reduction. I note that several references are made to "size reduction" in a copier.
As I recall, the change in size is so you don't see the paper edge in the copy.
If there were a "reduction" you would see it even better.
Copiers expand slightly as I recall so the edge of the paper will be outside what is copied.
Nevertheless, for the close matches that have been done, it didn't change much.

Says "if any definitive evidence is found (to support fakery) we'll report it...so far, none has been found." He also didn't name his sources and how he obtained these memo

Quoting from:
http://www.truetype.demon.co.uk/articles/times.htm
"In the late 1980's, Monotype redrew its Times New Roman to make it fit exactly the proportions and metrics of the Adobe-Linotype version of Times Roman.... "
This is significant because I have seen an overlay of Word's Times New Roman onto one of the memos, and the result was an extremely good match. Now, if the font existed before 1972, but was changed in the 1980's, then Mr Rather's assertion that the memo's are genuine seem to fly out the window.
Of course, what do I know. I'm evidently one of those partisan operatives, or whatever...

CBS says that downloading their PDF documents won't work becuase scanning them makes them much worse that the copies they had. CBS Distorting to exactly match modern MS Word default? LOL. Yeah, right.

Good Point!
I wonder how come scanning to PDF didn't convert the font to Arial? It must know that I'm more of a sans-serif kind of guy!

I don't know if the President has a claim, as a public figure, but I believe Killian's family could well have a claim. A news organization has an obligation to investigate in accordance with reasonable and customary standards. Those standards would be pretty high given the political climate as well as the story coming out of their NYC office. Since the documents were uncovered as forgeries within hours and since CBS deliberately spiked any voice that supported Bush, I think they could have a problem.

Good points.
History never repeats exactly. It is more of a helix than a repetitive circle.
I really think we are getting a chance to correct the coercion of the 1970's. As for the Dems and the media: notice how they have limited playbooks and repeat their tactics over and over.
These are the guys who love revolutionaries. In this cultural war, they are the Redcoats and we are the guerrillas. We have technology and interconnectivity and there are more of us.
To: LayoutGuru2
Speaking of the originals... CBS claims these documents were obtained from Killian's personal files.
If so, then where are the original?
Does Rather expect us to believe that Killian kept only 10th generation photocopies of his own memos?

"DOCUMENT AND HANDWRITING EXAMINER MARCEL MATLEY ANALYZED THE DOCUMENTS FOR CBS NEWS.
HE SAYS HE BELIEVES THEY ARE REAL...BUT IS CONCERNED ABOUT EXACTLY WHAT IS BEING EXAMINED BY SOME OF THE PEOPLE QUESTIONING THE DOCUMENTS....BECAUSE DETIORATION OCCURS EACH TIME A DOCUMENT IS REPRODUCED.....AND THE DOCUMENTS BEING ANALYZED OUTSIDE OF CBS HAVEBEEN PHOTOCOPIED, FAXED, SCANNED AND DOWNLOADED.... AND ARE FAR REMOVED FROM THE DOCUMENTS CBS STARTED WITH WHICH WERE ALSO PHOTOCOPIES."
Aren't we all only looking at the pdf documents that CBS put on their website.
Now...
If Mately told CBS that their memos are "not reliable representations of the memos" because they are not the original and hence can't be properly authenticated, why did CBS and Rather
unprofessionally and unethically go ahead with the Memo piece without getting a copy of the originals to authenticate first.
We need to know who the source is, and then get copies of the original to authenicate, since CBS is not internally investigating it anymore.

Robert Strong has got a serious bone to pick with that National Guard unit. He's angry, very angry about something, holding a grudge. Wasn't that obvious? Yea .. I picked up that hint when he called the Guard Corrupt

I am posting this just to post a thought.
Copiers normally blow the page up a slight amout so the page edges don't show.
On copiers now, if you don't want to change the size, you just select 1% or so reduction. You may have to experiment some to get the exact percentage, but once you set it, you could make as many generations as you would like and the size would stay.
