Hannity just said a story will be filed later today that from sources inside CBS that the source of the documents is also the one who provided the Abu Grihab prison photos.

It's about the spin. CBS has to do something and the lawyers have finally come up with a statement.

Actually, no. Centering wasn't so tough, really, although it would be unlikely in the case of a casual memo. It would work with proportional type, as on the IBM Executive, or any other type. It's actually the same process Word's centering algorithm uses.

Here's what you do:

1. Type the lines of the heading you want centered on a separate sheet. Since this is usually going to go at the top of the page, you can do it before beginning to type your document.

2.Measure the width of each line to be centered, and note it.

3. Make a light pencil mark at the center of your paper, then roll the paper through. Center the mark at the "V" in the shield that covers the platen.

4. Move the carriage half the distance of the first line's measurement to the left, and begin typing. Repeat for other centered lines.

Typists did this all the time. I know I did. But...you wouldn't go to the trouble for a casual memo.

I posted in another thread that _IF_ the documents proved legit, we'd have to debunk what they really mean. I have seen others (before we went crazy here with the forgery story) say that the memo's don't really reflect as badly on Bush as the media says they do. So JUST IN CASE, we need to debunk them anyways if they are LEGIT. Otherwise, we have given them more "Gravitas" then they deserved in the first place.

I still say Dan Rather has a hand on the rug and is waiting to pull it out from under us...

Screw the ^th business. CBS is trying to "center" on ^this issue. The best summary of the forgery I've seen is the graphic on another thread that animated the scanned original and a MS Word reproduction. They are not visually distinguishable. Sorry, can't remember the thread - been too many today. Maybe someone can post it here. In my opinion, it needs to be posted in every thread dealing with ^this story.

What I saw in the exsisting Bush documents is close to what you saw. It is monospaced, but it is not superscripted, it's just smaller than the regular script but does not extend above the upper boundaries of the line like the "th" in the forged documents do.

This only proves that someone in the ANG office had a ball type machine with the "th" key, it did not have modern superscript functions.

Also, the "th" in question on the verified documents looks like it is underline, which it is clearly not on the forged documents.

Proves nothing Dan. Nice try though.

She is a CBS producer for Rather, and has been held in contempt twice for failing to provide material from interviews. She may also be the source for the prison photos.

Why was is to important to get this story out that it was not even VETTED?

Some freepers have speculated that this was going to be a last minute smear, but they had to get it out now before Kerry went down the toilet completely.
