Yet another Leftist mouthpiece gets it completely wrong.
Washington Post | 9/10/2004 | Richard Cohen

Richard Cohen, of the Washington Post, wrote an artice in which he takes the typical Leftist position of ignoring the facts while slandering Senator McCarthy. While it is true that Cohen is nothing more than a mouthpiece for Liberal ideology; the actual facts shouldn't be too much to ask for.

In singing the praises of the Democrat's attack dog (Joseph Welch), Cohen manages to completely ignore the fact that Welch had been slandering McCarthy, interrupting his testimony and generally making an ass out of himself the entire time McCarthy was speaking. Welch's famous question of "Have you left no sense of decency" is a valid one; however it was directed at the wrong side in the issue.

A secret program, dubbed the Venona project, came to light somewhere in the 1990's - clearing McCarthy's good name while damning those who slandered him all those years. Richard Cohen is aware of that fact; his willingness to ignore (or distort) the facts can only be taken as a sign of his inability to continue his job as a writer. Another possible explanation is that Cohen simply isn't aware of the facts; though that hardly excuses him from writing blatant falsehoods in the vain attempt to get his point across.

Cohen does all of this in an effort to slander Vice President Dick Cheney for his speech attacking Kerry's various stances on terrorism and Iraq (specifically). Cohen assures us that there is nothing in Kerry's record that would indicate that he'd be weaker on terrorism. I wonder if Mr. Cohen has bothered to check Kerry's dismal record for himself.

Of course Cohen managed to distance himself from Kerry's hopes that the U.N. would someday control U.S. forces: doing so by means of a disclaimer, in which he stated that Kerry had said nothing recently that would indicate his weakness on the subject of terrorism.

Cohen follows the classic Liberal example of hoping for (and pointing out) only bad news in the war on terror. In doing so, Cohen, and his brother Leftists, competely ignores the good things America has brought to Iraq: rebuilt schools, roads, infrastructures and most important of all - a real opportunity for freedom. All this (and more) while we're slowly ridding the world of the terrorists who would love to kill us all.

The Venona project vindicated Senator McCarthy, just as future revelations will completely vindicate the Bush adminstration from the abhorrent charges leveled by America's left. Men such as Richard Cohen will be left with only their lies, longing dreams for the Left's failed policies, and a vile hatred for those who dared to stand up to evil.

Theed "honorable" Welch, as you remember, played the judge in Anatomy of a Murder. Performing was his true calling.

Most liberals have never heard of Venona and know absolutely nothing about it. All of their standard media sources have ignored and spiked it. Which calls to question just who has infiltrated those sources. To me, it essentially proves that McCarthy was only scratching the surface. He was only really pointing out the Communists in the government sector, while, at the same time, there were even more of them getting into the media, where they would come to train today's embedded vermin.

I learned years ago that Cohen has all the intellect of an adolescent sloganeering DU'er, with his "AWOL Bush" comment:

The leftists are imploding. I couldn't believe my ears last night when Geraldine Ferraro (on Hannity & Colmes) stated that John Kerry's personal admission of his "war crimes" was a good thing because it showed just how bad our troops were in Vietnam and helped end that war. What a stupid woman!

Never mind that Kerry's testimony was a load of BS, and came mainly from individuals who never served a day in uniform, much less in Vietnam.

Venona may have vindicated Nixon and HUAC, most notably concerning Alger Hiss, and vindicated in general the notion that it was rational to oppose communists in the US government. But McCarthy was still a drunken useless bully, who let himself get outsmarted by Welch, and on a net basis set anticommunism back more than anyone else (left or right)in the US.
