Has old media always been this sloppy?
Probably, but now we have the Internet to catch them. I've said it before, I'll say it again. The Internet is the modern version of the free press that the founders envisioned.
Arrogance unchecked knows no bounds...enter FR, FoxNews, Rush, etc...old media behaves like a wounded raccoon backed into a corner, trying to defend her young.
It's gonna get r-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-al ugly folks.

Yes, since time began. My first experience with the media slop was the 68 Tet offensive. Everybody there knew we kicked butt that was not what was reported. Until the internet you just endured.
