Sounds like Matthews explained well what happened to the Kerry campaign, that the Bush campaign has destroyed his credibility. By saying Kerry had to do the "same thing" but do it "carefully" he is offering good advice. Any GOP consultant or pundit in a moment of candor might say the same thing.
Fair enough, though the "open like a tuna can" line was over the top in these times, IMHO.
