Russia's President Vladimir Putin has said his country had shown weakness in the face of danger and most now respond to the threat of terrorism.
"We did not understand the complexity and the danger of the process which was emerging in our country and in the entire world," Putin said of the school hostage crisis in which at least 322 people are now known to have died.
"We did not know how to react in the appropriate fashion. We have showed weakness in the face of danger and the weak get beaten up," he said in a televised address.
Officials in North Ossetia say 155 children were among the dead in Beslan, as well as parents, school teachers and Russian special forces soldiers.
It is believed 32 terrorists died when Russian troops stormed the building after an explosion and gunfire were heard inside.
It is not known if any of the gunmen - believed to include Arab mercenaries - escaped.
There are reports that the explosives and arms used by the gunmen were smuggled into the school in summer during building work.
An estimated 700 are in hospital, most of them children. Some are badly injured.
On Saturday morning, Mr Putin visited the hospital where hundreds of wounded are being treated.
He ordered security forces to seal Beslan and close the border between Chechnya and North Ossetia.
"All Russia grieves with you," said Mr Putin during a meeting with local officials."Even alongside the most cruel attacks of the past, this terrorist act occupies a special place because it was aimed at children," he added.
There has been worldwide condemnation of the siege and messages of condolence including one from the Queen.
The EU has also expressed its sympathy, although it is demanding to know "how this tragedy could have happened".
Freed hostages described the mayhem which followed the explosions on Friday afternoon.
The blasts came 53 hours after the hostage-takers first threatened to blow up the building.
"Bombs were strung all over the gym," one teenage girl told state television. "Tape came unstuck on one and it blew up."
"There were two big explosions," said a women in her forties.
"We started pushing all the children out of the windows... Everyone who was there started pushing them out."
Authorities said they had been forced to launch a rescue operation when the gunmen opened fire on fleeing children.
So far no terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the siege.
that is it, in a nutshell, right there.
God Bless the injured.
Yeah...I think whether we see it or not, there's gonna be some changes in Russia on account of this.
My son has told me that most of the German military has already taken note. They are frustrated with their current leaders and have given our troops support and respect as they are coming and going to Iraq. They have faced the same enemies together in Afghanistan and they know who they are dealing with.
Nice of you to get it, Mr. President. Now, care to help out in Iraq?
"The EU has also expressed its sympathy, although it is demanding to know "how this tragedy could have happened"."
It happened you Eruweenies when Germany let the murderers go scot free after the 1972 Olympics slaughter. Oh, stupid me, those were just Jews, not real humans.
The EU has blood on their hands for what happened in Russia. The EU is more to blame than the Russians, before everytime the Russians got nasty with the terrorists the EU would start their whimpering and whinning for them to stop.
From Putin's words and the mood of the Russian people at this time, things will get very, very hot for the terrorists.
Wonder what gave him his first clue or maybe it was the second clue or the third clue or the............
Clueless in Russia
"Russia's President Vladimir Putin has said his country had shown weakness in the face of danger and most now respond to the threat of terrorism."
Chilling words from an ex KGB man.
Folks have talked about how we are now in WWIII, but not everyone realizes it. Now we will all know.
Once again, we will be allies of Russia, yet be shocked at the inevitable atrocities.
Yet, it is necessary.
If this event doesn't make it clear that we are in a global war with Islamic Fundamentalism as the enemy then you are just plain stupid.
Sadly, the real issue is "what German militay"..It's been estimated that Europe had 2.5 million total military, of which less than 2% are mission deployable within 30 days...
While Russia should stop all assistance to Iran, the US should do it's part & tell it's "allies" like Qatar,UAE,Saudi Arabia & Pakistan in no uncertain terms to stop their "aid" to Chechen "freedom fighters".Infact when Qatar decided to prosecute 2 Russian agents(who bumped off a Chechen bigwig living in Doha with a carbomb),the US gave it full support.
The awesome thing would be for Russia to send troops to Iraq to help us out. Or if they are there already, to increase the amount. Let's see the MSM have apoplectic fits.
Is Effing Kerry going to scratch Putin from the list of his "secret" Supporters?
How long before the stupid maggots in the mainstream media start blaming the Russians for "what they brought upon themselves"?
How long before Moore makes another "Russian" Colombine movie?
NOT LONG...I must take a deep breath before my anger/outrage kills me.
that is VERY good to hear. hopefully their leadership is paying attention.
I anticipate that Bush will shortly journey to Russia to cement an alliance against terrorism. It will be both a brilliant strategic and political move.
At least let the bastards really worry whether we will. Might tend to dry up some dineros for the Wahabbist scumballs that infest the Arabian peninsula.
In another related article, "Putin said some foes wanted to tear off parts of Russia, and others were helping them. 'They help, supposing that Russia - as one of the greatest nuclear powers - still poses a threat to them. So they have to get rid of that threat.'"
Who would that be, Vlad?
The Iranians are Shiites. They are not a problem for Russia. The problem for Russia and Central Asia is the radical Sunni Moslem sects -- the Wahhabi from Saudi Arabia and the Deobandi from Pakistan.
The rational course for Russia is to ally itself with Iran against Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
Russia should also invade and conquer Georgia to cut off the supplies to the Chechen terrorists coming through the Pankisi Gorge area.
They should also retake Uzbekistan and the rest of the "stans" in Central Asia to stamp out Islamic terrorism there.
If I could have 5 minutes with GWB,(like thats gonna happen),here is what I would tell him:
GWB should be on the "Red Phone" ASAP with Putin, and ask him if he is NOW ready to join the "Coalition of the Willing" in the world wide fight against terrorism.
GWB should say "If you are, the US will back you 100% in the UN and against the EU , while you PERMANENTLY take care of your terrorist "problem" IF.....AND ONLY IF...
Russia will back theUS 100% in the UN and against the EU "bunch" while the US,(with 24hours notice so Putin can get his "workers" out) PERMANENTLY takes care of Iran's nuclear "program".
If such an agreement could be made, Russia wins BIG by making the Russian people and their country FINALLY free of their "main terrorist problems" and maybe more "investments"
will happen there because it would be a lot safer, making their economy and country worth taking a monetary "risk" with, making a VERY strong case for Russia and Putin to FINALLY become a part of the "team".
The US would greatly benifit, as the Iranians would be given the "signal" to shed themselves of their oppressive government, which would then no longer be able to keep Iraq in such an unstable state, making the "trifecta" complete a LOT sooner that it looks like it would be completed at present.
The Saudis would maybe FINALLY "get on board" and "clean house"......
...Syria would surely know that THEY ARE NEXT, and MAYBE
suddenly "discover"( like Hillary's "discovery" of those "lost" FBI files,) those WMD's that Saddam gave them for "safe keeping".
......Hamas AND Arafat, would REALLY be feeling "quite
lonely" monetarily, AND in the WMD department....
...and I would wager little Kimmey-Jong would probably be like a B.F.Skinner rat in whatever maze we decided he should be put in, as he would be the the LAST AXIS-OF-EVIL left, with hardly any "customers" with any REAL money, to buy any of his very disruptive "toys" that he NEEDS the financial benifits from to keep him in power....
...and then Pakistan could FINALLY be free enough at that point to "take care of their terorist "biz".
...and one other little plus... oil would no longer be able to be used as an "infidel blackmailing tool" by the Mecca and Medina "crowd, and "gasoline prices might PERMANENTLY become a stable and fairly priced world wide commodity,( quite a "positive" thing if it did.)
....and if this could be worked out RIGHT NOW while the pictures and news of the "school incident" are FRESH in the
minds of the world at large, and (in MY "perfect VRWC Freeper world") say before the end of September (which would spoil lil' kimmy jongs planned "October Surprise").....
..do you think the TRAIN LOAD OF DEMS on their way to the "funny farm" will still want to hear their 2004 presidential candidate, "Smith-Corona-Rambo", aka jf'n, how he woulnd have done ALL of the above "differently", in sort of a "Silver Star with a "V" for Valor kind of way ???
