Okay, so I'm a selfish hedonist for supporting Alan Keyes for U.S. Senate

Okay, so I'm a Selfish Hedonist for supporting Alan Keyes for U.S. Senate

Nothing (well almost nothing) would please me more than seeing Alan Keyes win a seat in the U.S. Senate!

Why?

And despite his remarks on reparations or affirmative action, I would be extremely happy and take great pleasure in seeing Alan Keyes defeat Barack Obama. I believe whole heartedly that unlike Obama, Senator Keyes would preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America to the utmost of his ability and would dedicate himself to working with all of us in securing the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, and if that makes me a selfish hedonist, then so be it.

I challenge anyone here to put up a detailed list of the reasons why you believe Barack Obama would be better for America in the Senate than Alan Keyes.

His "statement" was quite taken out of context. Moreover, it is not going to impact any race except perhaps Keyes.

Finally, if you look at the transcripts of the 2000 debates, Keyes was probably the most significant factor in derailing McCain and helping Bush to the nomination. He hammered McCain and gave his open support to Bush. He has always been forthright in giving his support to Bush especially this year during an election year. Any complaints he has had about Bush policies have been in off election years.

Lots of bitterness against him on this forum and nationwide, is foundationed on unrepentant and terse statements he has made about our President, and in general, my party's leadership.

what statements?

To the contrary he helped Bush to the election in 2000 by derailing McCain in the debates (read the transcripts). Moreover, over the entire campaign he has supported Bush at every opportunity even though he disagrees with some of his policies and tactics. Keyes is no Buchanan. In fact Keyes support for Bush in 2000, I am convinced, diminished Buchanan's impact in that election. We should be thankful to Keyes that we do not live under the reign of Gore.

Keyes said Bush's decision was more damaging than anything that Bill Clinton, often called the villain of the right, could have done. "The evil that you know, the evil that inspires you to fight again is not the worst evil," Keyes said. "The worst evil creeps behind your lines and dominates your leadership."

What "decision" of Bush's is he criticizing. I think I know where you found this "quote", but it doesn't have to do with any decision of Bush at all. Nor is he speaking of Bush's leadership. He is speaking, I believe, of 9/11. What you have in quotes doesn't even make sense grammatically.

If your going to wage a compaign against Keyes at least get your quotes right and provide some context. This out of context quote wouldn't even make it in media, where out of context quotes is the name of the game.

There's nothing quite as amusing as a know-it-all that shows how little he or she knows.

Since most people here have followed Keyes' escapades it wasn't necessary to elaborate.

But for the less informed, such as yourself, I'll correct your incorrect assumption and tell you it was regarding stem cell research and it dealt precisely with Bush's decision.

Do try to keep up and especially when you decide to go on a posting rampage.

Keyes should have left his hands off his "own" and not embraced the Dem/lib ideas of reparations and affirmative action.

I don't mind iterating it again if it means more Illinois Republicans will not hesitate to vote for Keyes.

reparations: bad tactic perhaps. But it is a moratorium on income taxes WHICH KEYES WANTS TO MAKE PERMANENT FOR ALL AMERICANS. For those who don't understand what that means: Keyes wants to repeal the income tax and replace it with a sales tax (it's been building momentum for ten years).

affirmative action: Keyes is AGAINST QUOTAS, but because interviewers kept saying he was for discrimination, he always has to assert that he is not in favor of discrimination and therefore is in favor of affirmative action, but he is careful unlike almost any other politician to define what that means. It doesn't make him a rhino. Just the opposite. He is careful to articulate every position he stands for. You simply need to be careful to follow that articulation.

If everyone were inarticulate as dem's, surely we would live in a totalitarian state where the media is nothing but propoganda. .. . I forgot . . that's where we are.

We should be thankful to Keyes that we do not live under the reign of Gore.

We should be thankful to P Diddy that we don't live under the reign of Al Gore.

Let's thank Barry Bonds, Brett Favre, Mel Gibson, and a host of others.

They had as much to do with Gore losing as Keyes did.

hedonist: comes from the Greek word "hedus" which means pleasure. . . I think that the word is quite apropos for many in our culture who see sex as the summum bonum.

Apart from Illinois Republicans, who have a legitimate beef with their leadership over their failure to find a native-son candidate, I suspect that anti-Keyes posters are uncomfortable with ANY principled conservative politicians. Typically, they do not want to rock the boat of the status-quo, mainstream, MSM-approved consensual politics of logrolling and mutual back-scratching.

Well, I can only speak for myself, but you are dead wrong in my case.

I used to be a big supporter of his. But his recent statements (and yes, what he actually said and proposed, not what the media is spinning) have convinced me otherwise.

The problem is that Ambassador Keyes has shown himself to be anything but a "principled conservative." He used to be against reparations, now he's for them. He attacked Hillary for carpetbagging in New York, mocking her claim that she was invited in by the New York Democrats. Now he's done the same thing.

I won't support flip-floppers. He's either unprincipled or a liar, and I don't care which anymore. Either is enough to lose my support.

Gosh, you are just one great quip after another, aren't you? What a shame that you're only able to entertain yourself.

BTW, as for your remark about my being asked to run for office. Unlike Keyes, I have a job and it doesn't require me to take money from people whose emotions I have exploited. I wouldn't have the nerve to capitalize on the hopes of people whose wishes I had little or no chance to fulfill.

Give up the delusions Keyes is just a sacrificial lamb for the slaughter.

Maybe. But at least Keyes can introduce some Illinois folk to the Republican platform. Who was the last candidate to do that in the land of Lincoln?

He's talking about a tax break ---- something that only those who earn an income could get so you know the Jesse Jacksons and Al Sharptons would never allow it anyhow --- and tax breaks are allowed to all kinds of people for all kinds of reasons --- mortgage payers, low income earners, taxpayers with children, the blind, those whose medical bills exceed a certain amount, people who lost money from business losses and so on.

Oh, that was like yesterday!

Note that he has very tactfully not criticized the president this election cycle. Moreover, he did help to derail McCain in the debates and secure Bush the nomination. (Like I said, read the transcripts.)

Of course, he doesn't agree with Bush on everything. That's one of the reasons he ran in 2000. However, he is not tactless.
