WASHINGTON, Sept. 1 /U.S. Newswire/ -- In response to today's outrageous attacks on John Kerry's service by Karl Rove, former Georgia Senator Max Cleland and former Nebraska Senator Bob Kerrey made the following statements
Senator Max Cleland:
"Karl Rove was behind it all, it's part of his smear campaign to tarnish to tarnish the records and service of Vietnam Veterans, and now he's doing it again. I find it interesting that three different people have had to resign from basically the Bush Campaign and their official duties because of this ad, because they are all tied together."
Senator Bob Kerrey:
"If the question is whether or not there is any independence left between the campaign and these swift boat ads, that question has now been answered. Karl Rove has been in enough political campaigns to understand how separate you need to be from these independent efforts and he just ended that separation. If Ginsberg resigned, so should he."
(At link litany of old accusations follow)
I demand that they STFU.
Mom...
Max is decompensating again.
Excellent. Ben Nelson only won by a few hundred votes anyway didn't he? A R Governor should be able to murder him. Is he up in '06?
I certainly didn't vote for him!!!
The meltdown continues...
Rove was only commenting on something that is public knowledge. We all could say the same thing.
[I used to consider Kerrey one of my favorite Democrats, considering his military service.
Now I see him as a pathetic shrill for the Democrat left.]

Same here. Cornered rats, all of them.

This is my free advice: get out of the Democrat Party. The Democratic Party is nothing but a rat hole that will brainwash you and warp your mind with so many lies that all you can see is hate and negativity. Pretty soon all everyone around you will hear is your cynicism and sour attitude. Associating with anyone in the Democrat party will definitely mess you up. To anyone out there who has been associating with Democrats, get out now while the therapy is cheap. With a few weeks free from their mind bending influence, one may be fortunate enough not to require drug therapy and the cost of a therapist like what Max Cleland and Bob Kerrey are indicating they will need.
records is? ;^)
Waaahh! How ridiculous is this? The Kerry campaign has just given another news cycle to the SVFT.
Max Cleland says if Karl Rove doesn't stop talking about John Kerry, he's gonna blow himself up--again. My advice to Karl: Keep talking!
my goodness, the only thing Bob and Max can be doing is trying to energize their already despairing base...after all, no one else takes these two wahoos seriously since they started fronting for kerry.
You'd think they'd be able to summon a little a more turgor than they are.

BOOM! ROVE VS. MCPEAK ON 'TARNISHING VETS' [09/01 04:49 PM]
This isn't accidental. Karl Rove is making sure Kerry's 1971 testimony remains in the headlines the day he speaks at the American Legion convention. From AP:
White House strategist Karl Rove said Wednesday that Sen. John Kerry had tarnished the records of fellow Vietnam veterans with his anti-war protests, prompting a blistering response from the Democrat's campaign. "Who in the hell is Karl Rove, talking about John Kerry's war record?" asked retired Air Force Gen. Merrill McPeak Another Kerry backer called on President Bush's top political adviser to resign.
Rove created a campaign stir when he told The Associated Press that he didn't appreciate Kerry's congressional testimony 33 years ago condemning the actions of some U.S. soldiers upon Kerry's return from the Vietnam War.
"It was a period of intense feeling on both sides for and against the war, but I think that was painting with far too broad a brush to tarnish the records and service of people who were defending our country and fighting communism and doing what they thought was right," Rove said during the 30-minute session with AP reporters and editors...
"I do know that John Kerry has said, `Judge me by my record' and spent a lot of time talking about his service in Vietnam, which we ought to honor," Rove said. "There are not going to be ads and such by the Bush campaign about this, but it's something that the American people have a right to take into consideration."
McPeak said voters should also consider the fact that Rove received a student deferment when he graduated from high school in 1969. Democrats also note Vice President Dick Cheney's five Vietnam-era deferments.
Kerry aides, ordered by their boss to respond to virtually every attack on his military record, hastily arranged a conference call with two prominent veterans, former Sens. Bob Kerrey, D-Neb., and Max Cleland, D-Ga., who accused Rove of coordinating with a GOP-leaning group of veterans that has been attacking Kerry's combat record and later anti-war activities.
Cleland noted that two Bush campaign aides resigned when their ties to the group were revealed. He said Rove should, too.
In the AP interview, Rove strongly denied that he is linked to the group. "Those guys ought to stop drinking from the swamp. The fevers are getting to them," he said.
Rove also said Kerry "served with valor" in Vietnam.
Two thoughts:
1. Every reporter writing about Kerry's speech to the American Legion for tomorrow's paper just had to rewrite his lead (or, if you prefer, lede) to include the back-and-forth involving Rove.
2. Boy, that McPeak "who the hell" quote is up awful high in the story, isn't it? The first paragraph barely gets a chance to state what Rove said, and immediately we're told that the Kerry camp wants Rove to resign over the comment.
Gasp! How dare he!
Hey, I can get into it too!
I call for my kids teacher's resignation.
I call for that rude guy at the market to resign.
I call for Chris Mathews to resign
Let's see...who else...I call...
I think they have strategically kept her out of sight recently. I'm sure she'd only manage to exacerbate their current state of distress.
