I thought they definitely dissed their grandma.
No advantage to their coming across as airheads - the material was awful. They are attractive.

My son (16) had a few schoolmates over to plan a back to school dance. They gravitated to the TV when the twins came on. The room erupted into laughter and applause at the Polaroid line. They were a bunch of Outkast fans. Too bad that they aren't old enough to vote because they're all in love with the Bush girls after tonight.
To: misterrob
They sucked. They actred like dopey little girls and showed little respect for their role as President's daughters. Sorry, but when I was 22 I knew how to act appropriately. Lighten up. These girls are not New England Aristocracy. If you want New England Aristocratic 22 year olds, then you should vote for Kerry's daughters. If you want real people, the Bush daughters fit the bill.
BTW if someone filmed you at 22, you'd be shocked at how stupid you acted.

Do you think now would be a bad time to ask W for their hands in marriage?

Some folks on this post sound like they expected a serious foreign policy speech. Please.
I sat watching the twins with a friend who has been a lifelong democrat, he thought they were O.K.

I am over sixty, and if I vote for Bush,(I willl not vote for Kerry BTW)it will be because I was delighted with the refreshing, genuine and funny personae of his daughters. They seemed like children who received much love as they grew up, and they,in turn, loved their parents. They were not sophisticated, phony or "heavy".
I did have to leave the room and missed the cmment that has been subject to criticism on this thread, maybe that would have changed my impression.

"I did have to leave the room and missed the cmment that has been subject to criticism on this thread, maybe that would have changed my impression."
It probably wouldn't have changed your impression. The problem that a lot of posters seem to have is that the convention isn't aimed at "just" them. The daughters were talking to their own MTV generation and did a great job at it.
To: Limbaudda
What bothers me is that so many are blaming the twins. They were scripted and staged.
Despite the poorly written jokes and poor direction they were given, they seem like normal, healthy, happy, well-adjusted, very pretty young women.
They deserve better, and I hope they get it in their future public appearances.

Oh yes, they are oh so cute but not ready from prime time. They came across as very immature and a little bit rude. I had no idea what the heck they were talking about--the jokes were lame and didn't really make any sense. It just didn't work. I was really hoping to warm up to them. I agree with what some others have said--the convention isn't a place for the kids.
Jenna looks so much like her papa
Actually, I think Jenna looks much more like Laura. I can't figure out who Barbara looks like.
To: TOUGH STOUGH
I hope they get it in their future public appearancesAh gee, not more wisdom from the twins in store.

How about no speech. Or how about a minute from each to introduce their mom. That would have been enough.
To: Limbaudda
Speaking in a purely Machiavellian sense, I'm not sure of the impact of their appearance yet. The problem is the 'pop culture' factor. It was risky but it may help the Bush image considerably. Needless to say, it was pretty impressive to see two 22 year olds speak in front of millions with little or no experience and to do so so calmly.
To: WHATNEXT?
What makes you think it embarrassed their grandparents?
They were laughing and smiling the entire time. If you have read any books about the Bush family, it sounds just like the way they always talk to each other.
You should have heard the things Barbara said about the twins yesterday at a women's event.
It was very bold and funny. They all laughed. The girls were there with her.

I'll bet you were happy to have the spoiled Kerry kids at the dem convention.
Those girls are definitely children of priviledge.

They were watching at my house and at my daughter's job.
There's about 30 kids that age at her job.

Dick Cheney was smiling at the girls. He didn't seem to be feeing all that well, but it had nothing to do with the girls.
I watched this a second time and he seemed enchanted with them. He probably feels like they are nieces to him.

My daughter and about 30 of her friends will all be heading to the polls this year for the first time.
They plan to have a watch party that night.
Don't "misunderestimate" this age group.
