Day in the Life of Joe Middle-Class Republican A TvNewsLIES Reader contribution. By John Gray Cincinnati, Ohio
Joe gets up at 6:00am to prepare his morning coffee. He fills his pot full of good clean drinking water because some liberal fought for minimum water quality standards. He takes his daily medication with his first swallow of coffee. His medications are safe to take because some liberal fought to insure their safety and work as advertised.
All but $10.00 of his medications are paid for by his employers medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance, now Joe gets it too. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs this day. Joe’s bacon is safe to eat because some liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.
Joe takes his morning shower reaching for his shampoo; His bottle is properly labeled with every ingredient and the amount of its contents because some liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained. Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some tree hugging liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air. He walks to the subway station for his government subsidized ride to work; it saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees. You see, some liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.
Joe begins his work day; he has a good job with excellent pay, medicals benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe’s employer pays these standards because Joe’s employer doesn’t want his employees to call the union. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed he’ll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some liberal didn’t think he should loose his home because of his temporary misfortune.
Its noon time, Joe needs to make a Bank Deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe’s deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some liberal wanted to protect Joe’s money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the depression.
Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae underwritten Mortgage and his below market federal student loan because some stupid liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his life-time.
Joe is home from work, he plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive to dads; his car is among the safest in the world because some liberal fought for car safety standards. He arrives at his boyhood home. He was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers Home Administration because bankers didn’t want to make rural loans. The house didn’t have electric until some big government liberal stuck his nose where it didn’t belong and demanded rural electrification. (Those rural Republican’s would still be sitting in the dark)
He is happy to see his dad who is now retired. His dad lives on Social Security and his union pension because some liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn’t have to. After his visit with dad he gets back in his car for the ride home. He turns on a radio talk show, the host’s keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. (He doesn’t tell Joe that his beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day) Joe agrees, “We don’t need those big government liberals ruining our lives; after all, I’m a self made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have”.

Not true. Liberals might fight to increase the cost of water 100 fold by reducing heavy metal content from a couple of parts per billion to a couple of parts per trillion for no measurable health benefit, but good clean drinking water has nothing to do with liberalism

Most middle aged conservatives don't take daily medication, only the older ones for things like hypertension and heart failure On the other hand most liberals probably do take daily medication like Zoloft, Lithium, and Prozac. Being consistent in the belief of the obviously untrue must generate some mental stress from time to time. There is also a subset of liberals that takes very expensive anti-virals, protease inhibitors, appetite stimulants, etc.

His medications may or may not be safe to take, but if they are it's the result of competitive forces in the market place. Compare the liberals dream of health care - Cuba with the USA. I wonder how many drugs have been developed and safety tested in Cuba recently. I'd be willing to guess none in the last 50 years.

Wow two lies for the price of one. Lie # 1 "Union workers etc" Health benefits came out of the WWII wage and price controls. Employers looking for something to get good employees whe the imperial government prevented offering direct financial incentive took to offering "benefits" Lie #2 - The employer's medical plan just takes money that would have otherwise goine to the employees and distributes it from the healthy to the unhealthy. Someone has to pay.

It's the marketplace stupid. Oscar Meyer made big bucks because consumers found a superior product, not because some bureaucratik swine in the public trough passed a bunch of regulations.
Union deadheads and their pensions added another $3000, because of the union payoffs to the Democrats
and finally add another $4000 for airbags which are unnecessary if you wear a seatbelt and antilock brakes which have absolutely no effect on crash statistics or stopping distance.
Poor joe then goes to the gas station to fill up at $2.25 a gallon because some liberal fought to keep from drilling in the ANWAR.
While filling up Joe's car is carjacked by some scumbags who are out of prison because some liberal judge decided that they were underprivileged or something.
Joe then goes to work and finds that his job is gone and his company is out of business because it couldn't can't afford the confiscatory tax and regulatory burden imposed by the government
Dispirited, Joe goes home, and goes to bed. Later that night the scumbags who stole his car break into his house find him defenseless and kill him, his wife and his children because some liberal fought hard to get gun control laws in place. After urinating on the corpses they give thanks to Sara Brady, Diane Feinstein and anyone else they can think of for supporting gun control because it takes the risk out of their chosen profession.
This idiot is free to write this tripe because some conservative soldier blew the head off of an enemy of freedom and free expression.
I find this pretty accurate. As the article notes, nothing is created, built, or produced by liberals. All they do is regulate, whine, and butt-in. What isn't noted is that for all this unsolicited "help," liberals deduct 50% of Sam's work effort. Liberals are the societal equivalent of the windshield squeegee guys of pre-Guiliani New York City.

Actually, medical insurance was devised as a way by employers to get around wage controls imposed by a liberal during WWII.
I am a small business owner. There are 4 'Joes' that have jobs because I, have taken chances and invested my time and money to start the company and to keep the company afloat. If the koolaide drinkers vote Kerry in, I will probably go under because of increased taxes and regulations. Then the 4 'Joes' and myself can go on the dole.

Gee, but I thought that it was the GOP, back around the early 1900s, who put in place most of the protections against fraud, dangerous goods, and the like, for the consumers. And wasn't it the GOP who started most of the truly effective environmental protections, such as the NPS and pollution controls? I must be missing something....

1. The “liberal” behind the FDA legislation was Theodore Roosevelt. A Republican. http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~lrd/history2.html
2. Health Care! What a hot issue! Were to begin? Perhaps COBRA? That’s Reagan (1986). Multiple presidents have pushed health bills. Claiming it for “liberals” is deceitful.
3. Public transportation? Keep it. It has been a massive money-pit for all taxpayers.

Has anyone else noticed that when a liberal says something was fought for, and a republican says something was fought for, they're talking about totally different things?
The Republican means: Many brave men picked up guns and spilled their blood for this
The Liberal means: Some whiner got on the senate floor and whined until this got passed
Joe wanted to work on his family's farm, but when his father died they had to sell it in order to pay the death taxes that some greedy liberals demanded.
They didn't get as much money for the property as they should have because some bleeding heart liberals wanted to protect a rat and now all the land cannot be used.
