He also hates war with a passion, doesn't see the point... I don't know how I'm going to talk him out of that stupid notion, but I'm trying
you may have to come to the conclusion, if you have not already, that you are just too smart for him. give him his grip and tell him to hit the bricks.
He can just shut up and munch tofu then. We don't have a draft. There are plenty of us volunteers to get the job done. No need for him to worry his pretty little head over it.
If Bush wanted more (and less expensive) oil, he could have had the sanctions on Iraq dropped with a phone call to Kofi Annan.
If Bush wanted less (and more expensive) oil, there are any number of things short of war he could have done to do so. Why risk his reelection when there are much easier ways to drive up the cost of oil?
If he wanted to physically control the oil wells in Iraq, why only do it for a few months? Regardless of who hand their hands on the wells, Saddam, us, the Iraqis, it's going to get pumped.
At any rate, once you determine why he thinks Bush wanted the oil, it makes it easier to debunk. I've chased two liberals across the entire spectrum of 'prices up, prices down, physical control' and gotten both to admit that the 'war for oil' thing doesn't make sense once you think about it.

I also hate war with a passion. But to not 'see the point' is to hand your freedom to someone else, and hope they let you keep enjoying it. If you don't fight for what you believe in, someone else will.
