Who Will Be the Republican Presidential Candidate in 2008?

Posted on 08/25/2004 11:26:45 AM PDT by French-American Republican

What politicians are seen as likely contenders for the Republican nomination? Who is most likely to get the nomination? Who would you like to see as the candidate? Should Cheney run? Is Cheney planning to run?

Rudy does not want to ban private ownership of guns.

His positions are squarely to the left of our Founding Fathers views on RKBA.

"Pro Perversion" is a loaded term - like I said, if you have some gay acquaintances it doesn't mean they are 'pro perversion.'

Rudy is in the gay rights camp. 'nuff said.

Rudy is pro choice but probably could be counted on to vote the right way for stuff like parental notification matters, etc.

Based on what? If you have the urls to back this up, I'll read them.

Rudy never ran against Hilly. I don't know what you are talking about.

Right. he tied up millions in nontransferable campaign donations and then bailed out when his personal life (and his prostate) heated up. At that point, no other NY Republican should a chance to compete against hrc.

>>I like Jeb as a candidate, but you can just imagine the outcry that the Bush family is "establishing a monarchy" etc.

This problem would be mitigated if Hillary were running. The 2008 election would be a question of a fourth Bush term or third clinton term. The ending of the Bush dynasty (assuming W wins this year) would create the clinton dynasty.

I am sure he will find a way to run anyhow.
Kerry did it, without leaving the Senate...
It's not uncommon.

Unfortunately, I just heard on the drive home tonight that there are hints that Gov. Pataki of NY may be in the running for President 2008.

Voting for him would be a MISTAKE as he is nothing but a RINO and has HURT NEW YORK and its economy....sorely! He's nothing but a politician....looking to get re-elected during his career in NY.

I would never vote for him, for anything, except dog catcher.

I'd like to see Alan Keyes, but he'll be tied up with his first term in the Senate. Oh, well.....

Or the VP...I'm OK with either one.

Cheney will NOT run,Jeb can't,and let's stick with the program at hand...GETTING PRESIDENT BUSH RE-ELECTED!

No matter WHO FREEPERS may want to see as the '08 GOP candidate, they have less than zero say in who runs in the primaries. No doubt there'll be the usual people who foolishly imagine that the presidency is "owed" them, maybe even some old names, who still can't win,and then there'll be someone the party has sought out/groomed,that nobody here has even thought of.But this is NOT the time for speculation!

Seriously. BUSH is infinitely better than Kerry, but not the pure Constitutionalist that we need.

4) FAILED in his first attempt to keep hrc out of office.

He dropped out of the race because of prostate cancer. Considering he did so well before the election, I don't see how this is his fault.

Blame Rick Lazio for being a namby-pamby candidate and New York for being overwhelmingly liberal.

I don't get what you're saying. You're penalizing the guy because he had cancer? Man that's harsh.

Not sure, but I'm more worried about 2008 (rather than 2004!!) for about 3 years now ....

Best bet would be Connie Rice.

Worst?

Colin Powell.
