Normally I would say it's a hoax after the fact except the posts started 9 days ago and the "Operation Air Strike One" posts started 3 days a ago. I have seen a lot of weird stuff on usenet. Spammers, cryptograms and the like but nothing like that.

The files you posted look like the kinds of wargaming simulation stuff my co-workers built in the early 90s. It was tested thoroughly in the software development stages and proved useful to Stormin' Norman on the battlefield.

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see al Qaeda in possession of that kind of software. They posted graphics of intended targets in New York that were built with a very high end GIS planning system.

The massive amount of money available to al Qaeda coupled with their cadre of loony college graduates makes for an interesting adversary.
