Could someone please tell me more about the United Church of Christ, the church that Christian Barack Osama belongs to?

I do not think he is gay.

the old Puritan movement that, for all intents and purposes, founded this nation.]

That's the mythology.

There were also Dutch Reformed and Anglicans in New York, Quakers in Philadelphia, Catholics in Maryland, and more Anglicans in Virginia (the "old dominion").

The "old puritan movement" planted many of the bad seeds that have all but destroyed this country (not "nation", btw).

"The UCC is not to be confused with the generally conservative Churches of Christ."

Those "Campellites" may be getting more and more liberal regarding homosexual issues. But their congregations are very different one from another however. Their northern cousins often instrumental music. The Christian Church is also a related denomination.

Most of the Massachusetts' witches were hanged not burned. And remember it was in Massachusetts not Virgina or the Carolinas.

This is the church of which "Rev." Barry Lynd (sp?) of ACLU fame is a member.

312 years ago, they burned witches. Now, they ordain them.

Good answer.

No way, never heard of a liberal Church of Christ.

A liberal Church of Christ is one which allows musical instruments in the worship service. http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2004/003/36.62.html

Thanks, interesting link. I am a member of a Christian Church of the persuasion that allows instrumental music. We consider ourselves very conservative and try to stick to only what the Bible teaches.

If Max Lucado truly thinks baptism is not necessary for salvation he's gone off the rails by the lights of Acts 2:38.

One link for another, this is probably our biggest church averaging 15000 in attendance weekly and the page to their statement of faith: http://www.southeastchristian.org/com_statementoffaith.cfm What is sad for Max Lucado is that you obviously don't have to throw out the Bible to have a big church.

I am not from that theological family, but it strikes me if you stray from your theological roots, it might be time for some self-examination as to whether it is time to move your affiliation to a different body. I do know that Lucado's books are popular among other sub-branches of Christianity.

Campbellites are associated with the Christian Church and the Disciples of Christ, and I think you may mean them when stating 'getting more liberal regarding homosexual issues.' The Christian Church and Disciples of Christ are nothing similar to churches of Christ that I know of.

There are liberal, conservative and institutional churches of Christ.

Liberal would be having instrumental music, choirs, bands, kitchens, day care, etc. usually funded through the Lord's treasury.

Institutional would be none of the above, but supporting 'from the Lord's treasury' orphan homes, co-oping w/ other congregations, and man-made institutions.

Conservative would probably describe holding to none of the above....but each congregation may hold closer to sound doctrine while others are pressed to become like the denominations surrounding them or dividing over various issues that affect us all today.

If I've not covered everything or left something out, I apologize.

Me---I'm just a pro-vocal only, congregational singing, pro-giving of my means to poor people, pro-hospitality for my brothers/sisters in Christ at my own house, pro-work of the church is to save souls not entertain, pro-life, pro-marriage, pro-children and pro-happy.

Stay safe this evening ya'll
