Kerry submitted a damage report for boat damage that occurred the day before?

Why would he do that? Could repairs even get done that fast?

I, for one, don't really think it matters if Vietnam soldiers WERE committing war crimes [snip]

It matters. First, an "order" to commit a war crime is not a lawful order. Soldiers, sailors, and marines are obligated not to obey orders which are not lawful. Second, when the US assents to a treaty under the Constitutionally lawful prescription, this treaty becomes part of US law. Without that guarantee we could not make treaties in our own interest. The US, BTW, does not subscribe to the most recent Geneva convention, because signing it and ratifying it are not in our interest. (It gives, among other things, elevated rights to terrorists above lawful combatants.)

The US, rightly, has not ratified the International Court. The treaty empowering this denies the rights of accused guaranteed by the Bill of Rights, for example. But it would be in our interests to honor, and for our soldiers to honor, a treaty--if it could ever be made--that guaranteed the Bill of Rights to all the people on earth.

Third, it matters because (as is the case in Iraq today) US soldiers for the most part were given complex protocols to protect innocent lives in Vietnam. To say that it was war and therefore OK denies a tremendous sacrifice made "just" to be on the side of the right and the just that Americans made in Vietnam. Even Daniel Elsberg, of Pentagon papers fame--and certainly no conservative, admitted that atrocities in Vietnam were not common.

"When you slay monsters, you must not become a monster. When you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares back into you."

It is always important to be on the side of liberty, truth, and justice. The claim by VVAW, multiculturalists, communists, fellow travelers, and all their ilk rankles most because if you examine American History objectively, we have taken great pains and made great sacrifices to do what is Good. Even failing, as we often have, we failed through weakness, and not through intention, certainly not through malice. We lost guys in the 'Nam because they would not shoot a kid during the day who donned his black pajamas for ambush at night.

It matters. It is why the SBVT's are outraged.

As to quantity, that has mostly come after the citation by Hume, and that has come mostly as a result of Kerry's response.

The link: You're welcome. MRC is a national treasure. The Bozelle family has been in the fight for half a century. No web browser is complete without this in the Faves.

A new talking point is coming out from the Left, namely, "well, memories dim after 35 - 40 years so no one really knows what the actual facts were."

I can say, with experience, that when you were there, going thru some of the sh*t that went on, your memory of those events never dims. I'm sure that the surviving vets from WWII have those images "seared" in their memories and NONE of THOSE guys ever claimed to have been in Cambodia!

A new talking point for the Right should then be: Very true. Let Kerry produce his diary, and ask the DOD for release of all his records.

He wanted out. He merged the day before story with the earlier wound story in a short report to buttress his bug out story.

The USA was a major party to and enthusiastic signer of the Geneva Conventions.
It matters a great deal.
It did then and it does now.
What seems to be escaping you, is the fact that Kerry lied and caused incredible damage to our military servicemen during and after the war.
Perhaps it was too long ago for you to remember or entirely comprehend. That's OK, and not meant to be a slam.
Many people under 40 can't begin to imagine why I vehemently detest Carter so thoroughly.
Most veterans over 40 understand completely if I tell them I was working in Military Intel during the Carter years. I don't have to spell it out in detail. It is seared-seared I tell you into my memory.
And the classified information declassification schedule should make clear to anyone still interested exactly why this is so.
But who cares? Perhaps eventually a few honest historians.
Those of us who lived through it don't need any reminders, and we have all sworn the same oath.
They really better install an innovative sewage system around Carter's grave.

Is there a way for FreeRepublic to set up a prayer thread for the swift boat vets for truth?

An official thread where we can go to offer a prayer every day.

RC -- isn't this your area of expertise and service? Sounds like a worthy cause to me...

Here it is. I'm trying to find a video link to his ad (?) "No Man Left Behind"

"...O'NEILL: Yes, sir. Kerry said in over $50 million of advertising and at the Democratic convention, this was the famous story of March 13th entitled "No Man Left Behind." Actually that was the name of his ad that he ran: "No Man Left Behind." According to his story, a mine went off near another boat. There were five swift boats. They all began to take off. The mine went off near Kerry's boat. This knocked Rassmann in the water. There was intense fire, you know, small arms fire after these boats --

RUSH: Enemy fire?

O'NEILL: Enemy fire. The five boats cleared the kill zone, and then Kerry looked back and realized Rassmann was no longer there, and then single-handedly Kerry had been wounded by the water mine, both in the hip and had a bleeding arm. Nonetheless, despite his wounds, he led his boat back in and under terrible fire he crawled up to the bow, and I guess he dove in now, but in the old days, he pulled him out supposedly with his wounded arm. What this story is, is a total fabrication built around a small truth, and it's a very demonstrable fabrication. I might explain it if that's okay.

"Consider that Bush's AWOL/line-jump story has been out since 2000 (or was it 1999?) while the SBVT story has only been out for a couple of weeks."

I have to jump in here. The "Bush was AWOL" deal first surfaced in 1994, IIRC, when he ran for governor of Texas. The Dems and the media used it against him--didn't work. Then they tried it again in 2000--didn't work. They've tried it again now in 2004--hasn't worked.

The "AWOL vs SVFT" coverage comparison is, as far as I know, limited to 2004 coverage. Rest assured that there are far more than 70+ stories about Bush's supposed AWOL status. Add a zero or two.

Is there a way for FreeRepublic to set up a prayer thread for the swift boat vets for truth?

An official thread where we can go to offer a prayer every day.

Thank you for the ping, TX. These brave Veterans would be best served by a seasoned prayer warrior and/or fellow Veteran - someone in authority who will rally, inspire and lead fellow prayer warriors daily (imho, based on experience (Veteran, faithful military father - isn't this your area of expertise?) - but if no one does, let me know. I do have a gift for pestering others. *g*)

Pinging authorities (or anyone so called) to host this daily prayer thread, ping others.

Please, whoever will, add me to your ping list.

Thank you!

Lonely, But Not Alone

Read: John 16:25-33

You will be scattered, each to his own, and will leave Me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. —John 16:32

Bible In One Year: Psalms 116-118; 1 Corinthians 7:1-19

Her brief note to me spoke volumes. "I am a handicapped person in a wheelchair," she wrote. "I am very lonely even though I know I'm never alone. God is always there. I don't have a lot of people to talk to."

Loneliness has been termed the most desolate word in the English language. It is no respecter of age, race, economic status, or intelligence. Albert Einstein said, "It is strange to be known so universally, and yet to be so lonely."

God made us for intimacy and companionship with others. Even before sin entered the world, He declared that it is not good for man to be alone (Genesis 2:18). That's why many people often feel so empty inside.

Jesus knew loneliness too. He surely must have felt it when His disciples deserted Him (Mark 14:50). The Father's presence more than compensated for this, however. He said, "I am not alone, because the Father is with Me" (John 16:32). That intimacy with the Lord is available to all who put their trust in Him and His Word (14:16-23).

We can lessen our feelings of loneliness by reaching out to others. But even more important, we must reach out to the Lord. He is always with us, and He wants us to fellowship with Him throughout the day. —Dennis De Haan

When we are feeling all alone
And no one seems to care,
We must remember: Jesus said
That He is always there. —Sper

Those who know Jesus are never alone.

Indeed, it has received more coverage than accusations that Bush skipped over a long line to get in the National Guard and then went to work on a campaign for a year.

Not so, according to the Media Research Center:
