The Neander Valley seems to be north of 51 degrees North latitude (further north than Calgary). That seems to me to be Northern Europe. But I'm not a philosopher so you lost me talking about nominalism.

To be sure, Europe wasn't called that when the Neanderthals were alive.

And, bits (DNA) of Neanderthal Man is found in everyone alive today except most Africans. All the features that define Neanderthal Man can be found (mostly separate) in humans today.
Australian Aboriginies today have a more pronounced brow ridge than did Neanderthals.
