Bush is a southerner, with a drawl — but not one who is either liberal or Democratic. We forget just how rare that is. Similarly, Bush's Christianity seems evangelical and literal. It comes across as disturbing to liberals of the country who see religion as a mere social formality at best, useful for weddings and funerals, perhaps comforting at Christmas and Easter of course, but otherwise a potential threat to the full expression of lifestyle "choices". Critics accuse Mr. Bush of Manichaeism — of tough, black-and-white talk about good and evil. They are right. We not only have an evangelical Christian as president in the age or irony, but one who really makes it sound like we have the ability to make choices that are more right than wrong and then act on them. In a world in which our elites can give 1,000 reasons for inaction and not one for resolution, Mr. Bush seems precipitous, unnuanced, one-dimensional, and oh-so-retro.

I think there's more to it though. It's sort of a mob fury mentality thing. These haters enjoy the feeling of hating someone with such intensity. The hate feels good to them. It's also, in perverse circles, hip to hate him. Sheeple like to fit in, hence the hate.
I've never seen anything like it. I think Bush is a good looking, sincere and congenial man with a very nice way about him. I can't stand all the hate directed at the man. It must be hurtful to him. He's only human. Laura told Larry King that it hurts her. I adore the man.
This article says with great economy why I am voting for Bush. He is the better man.
A lot of us are just frustrated at his big spending and his inability to control the borders, but bottom line we still support him because of his traditional values and his leadership on the WOT.
After much thought, I have deduced that there is no valid reason for any normal American to HATE President Bush, DemoRat or not. They can disagree all they want, but W has said or done nothing that justifies hatred.
I have concluded that there are two types of abnormal Americans that HATE the President. The first are criminals and perverts; they hate Bush because he will not pardon or validate (respectively) their actions. The second are DemoRat clones that blindly follow the instructions of the first group.
That's it, simply criminals and perverts crassly using the stupid to promote their ability to continue and expand criminal activity and perversion.
Those are the people that hate Bush and that is why.

Everyone here knows that GWB is not "a conservative" & that's OK.
OK, I don't agree with his border policies and I fear a civil war might be the end result but I'd rather be writing him on that issue than quietly accepting fate because I knew that any plea directed at a lefty executive would wind up in an FBI file.
And I know that feeling because I live in Boxer/Feinstein/Chavez country.
Some people, not necessarily you, don't know what the word "support" means in politics. It means more than just contributing money, putting a bumper sticker on your car, and voting for the candidate.
It includes always speaking favorably of the candidate, especially around people who may be inclined to say unfavorable things about the candidate if they think they won't be challenged.
It includes not saying "I support him but...." and then listing all the things you think the candidate is wrong about.
There is a time to "toe the line" and a time to "hold the officeholder's feet to the fire."
My inlaws think like the lefties described here. I can't understand it, they seem so level headed otherwise.
I think the author is mistaken. The depth of feeling is from finally coming to realize that they're no longer in the majority. Bush is a just handy target.

The left loves moral relativism because it allows them to promote their "anything goes" agenda. They know that getting people to accept small cultural changes will eventually allow them to sell huge cultural changes. Then along comes a George Bush and points out that some things are black and white, some countries are evil, and some actions don't require a lot of hand wringing. He threatens their plans for our culture and they hate him for it.
