I'm disappointed in Bill Pascrell, whom I've known for 20 years. Bill and I share a zealous devotion to Fordham University football and basketball adventures.I've always found him to be intelligent and thoughtful. He always pointed with pride that it was his effort as Mayor of Paterson to make Joe Clark a principal, resulting in Clark becoming a national figure for discipline and basics in education. I am sorry to see this story.

I know these men as fine family men.

Other well-known "family men."

Then he lied to you, Sen. Frank Graves was Mayor when Joe Clark was Principal.  You know how Paterson Mayor Pascrell became a Congressman?  He walked into a room filled with black leaders of Paterson and said, "You want your first black mayor" meaning councilman Martin Barnes who ran for mayor in the past, "then make sure I get elected to congress", Congressman Bill Martini won every town in his district except for the very populated democrat town of Paterson which pushed Pascrell over the edge.

Published on March 14, 1989, Press of Atlantic City, The (NJ) NEWS BRIEFS, 400 students walk out, back Clark, PATERSON - About 400 Eastside High School students walked out of their building Monday and marched downtown to the Board of Education office in an apparent show of support for suspended school principal Joe Clark. The students left the school building around 9:30 a.m. and eventually took control of a meeting room in the Board of Education building, said Paterson Mayor Frank Graves. The students were escorted back to school by police about and hour later.

Principal Joe Clark said Saturday that his steel-fisted reign over the inner-city high school he ran for eight years apparently is over, thanks to a City Council of "transvestites" and "vermin. "Clark, who was released Saturday from Newark Beth Israel Medical Center following heart surgery six weeks ago, said his biggest accomplishment was showing that "black and Hispanic students in the inner city can behave." "Educating them is another story," he said.

In 1990, his work for a better Paterson culminated in his election as Mayor. He became Mayor in 1991, The Movie "Lean on Me" was already OUT by the time Pascrell was elected Mayor
