You have not left? Am staying too - but may be very sorry. The ground is soggier than I have seen it since Fran and Floyd....not good.

The storm bands are about an hour away it looks to me....stay safe! Lower floor - maybe an interior closet/bathroom if the winds get bad. Not sure I would be in a basement - because the ground really is saturated and water is sure to get in.

God bless!

Don't you two have anything to do today besides condescendingly pontificate on threads like this?

I don't guess it occurred to you two genuises that there just may be some people on this thread who LIVE in mobile homes, did it?

Go away.

Looks like they are going to get the front right quadrant of a tropical storm......wind and rain. They are safe, thank goodness.

I don't think it's going to be bad this time, FW; turn on WRAL; they think we may miss everything except the rain and a little blustery wind!

What awful comments. You should be on your knees counting your blessings. I have an above average IQ, am a college graduate and am married with kids and lived in a mobile home for years. My husband's job required a lot of relocation.

Are you aware that many in the military live in mobile homes for the same reason? (The men and women that are protecting your ass). Are you aware that many of our retired, who have worked hard all their life live in RVs that cost over 100,000 and put many homes to shame , so that they can travel? You have insulted a lot of people here.

Friends of our were leaving for Myrtle Beach tomorrow; I'm assuming they will not go.

Did I hear on FNC correctly that the loss of life is worse than Andrew?

We just had our tornado watch canceled. Was supposed to go until 1 PM. A tornado was spotted in Georgetown.

Local weather reports winds down to 75 MPH, with gusts to 90 MPH. They say the center of the storm still hasn't made landfall yet. Myrtle Beach and surrounding towns are getting the heavy stuff now plus a heavy storm surge.

there are already 150+ DOA at local hospitals - and as these house to house searches take place, that number is going to rise. how many lives were lost with Andrew?

I'm hearing that also. Most are from that mobile home park.

26 people died as a direct result of Hurricane Andrew while indirect loss of life raised the death toll to 65.

I'm wondering if they didn't get hit by a tornado because as soon as they knew the storm turned I would have though they would have hurried to a sheltered area. Most people will get out of MHs if they have the time.

Well, for goodness sake, I wish they'd make up their minds.

WRAL is reporting that.

IIRC, it was reletively low. Around 50, I believe.

People live in mobile homes because they can't afford to live in regular houses. And they sure as hell can't afford to subsidize a steel-reinforced concrete bunker with failsafe power supply, potable water, foodstuffs, blah blah blah, yada yada yada.

To me there is nothing wrong with living in a mobile home until you can line up the cash you want for a house --- mobile homes can be sensible --- and anyone who can buy land near the coast could certainly afford land further inland if they chose. You don't have to put a mobile home near the beach if it's your permanent home.

Mobil homes can actually be pretty nice.
I lived in one for a while when I graduated college and landed my first job.
It was cozy and comfortable, and I enjoyed hearing the wind and rain during a storm.
But I wouldn't want to be in it during more severe weather like tornadoes or hurricanes.
Prayers for those who are exposed to these dangers.

I keep hearing different places where it made landfall and now that it hasn't. One report has the center not touching land until it gets to Wilmington NC.
