Teenage Ally Helps Soldiers in Iraq

In the Iraqi border town of Al Qaim, U.S. forces were getting pounded by insurgents up to 10 times each day.

Tankers from the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment knew that intelligence was key to battling the enemy. Capt. Chad Roehrman was at a checkpoint when he thought another dodgy informant walked up.

"One of my guys came to me and said, 'Hey, sir, we got another boy who says he has information,'" he said.

What the boy had was information on a well-connected cell of 40 fighters whose leader was a former officer in Saddam Hussein's army. He was also the boy's father.

The Americans hid the boy in an armored Humvee and checked out his report of a weapons stockpile in his backyard.

They found explosives, rocket propelled grenades and a complete weapons system they hadn't seen before. The father and another man were arrested.

After the bust the boy couldn't go home so he moved in with the soldiers. They gave him the nickname "Steve-O" and a bunk right next to theirs. He later gave them more intelligence that led to other arrests.

This boy needs to be moved to the US, if there was ever someone that should be moved to the US it is this boy. He should be given English classes and a job as a translator. If they leave this kid in Iraq he will be killed, he is a brave soul.

I read an article months ago about this kid. It pointed out that his father was very violent and abused him and his mother.

Remember that it is OK for Muslims to deceive infidels. This boy will be able to get a lot of good intel, which will lead to a lot of dead US troops.

It would seem that this boy is becoming a man and making a man's decision about wrong and right.

Maybe one day his father will realize that it was he who was on the wrong side of this conflict and that his son made the right decision. Perhaps his father will realize that it took a lot of courage to do what his boy did, and that his boy's actions probably saved the lives and him and many others.

I praying that this boy and his father might one day be reconciled and reunited.

Maybe his father refused to buy him those Air Jordans and that iPod he wanted.

Re: "...This boy will be able to get a lot of good intel, which will lead to a lot of dead US troops."

Oh, I wouldn't be so sure.

We have ways of checking out informants, like feeding them some bogus intel and seeing if the gremlins act on it, for instance. In all probablility this lad has been given the test and so far at least, passed.

This isn't the first Iraqi to "come over" by any means, is it? how about the Iraqi doctor who probably saved Jessica Lynch's (?) life by "ratting out" her captors / tormentors?

It's likely not a bad idea to let it be known that a much better life is a strong likelyhood for those who dime out their abusive terrorist overlords, be they "friends" or family.

It seems that the GI's know well what fate awaits the young fellow should he return to his neighborhood - and surely his former neighbors know all too well who he is long before it was published here or elsewhere.
His intel no doubt SAVED a few coallition and/or Iraqi lives, and hopefully he will be protected and taken care of accordingly.
