POSTED: 6:43 am EDT August 13, 2004
BOWLING GREEN, Va. -- A woman was sentenced Thursday to 10 days in jail for defying a court order not to smoke around her children.
Tamara Silvius was banned last year from smoking around the youths, now ages 8 and 10, as part of a custody arrangement with her ex-husband.

I know, Meek. I know...........
You can smoke some leaves in your own house. The treatment of marijuana smokers is truly tyrannical.
Exactly.
Who will live longer.......kids that were exposed to some ETS or these kids? If they don't lose that fat.
Marijuana is illegal (and rightly so).
I suspected you were a do-gooder, but now I see you're just self-centered.
I don't patronize restaurants that play music loudly and position tables too closely together. That's the free-market way. In a similar vein, I do patronize restaurants that are cigar friendly. And I expect people who strongly dislike smoke to take their business to other restaurants, not to prevent me from enjoying myself.
A few years back, a study on second hand smoke, came back negative. No evidence second hand smoke was harmful.
Instead, of being truthful, it was covered up by the libs & I'm sure conservatives too. The results given to the public, supposedly was second hand smoke was just as bad as, if you were smoking yourself.
This news was on Rush's talk show, so I most definitely believe it. Why are so many people concerned about others health? Is there that much love for our fellow man, in this country?
I remember back in the 60's when the Politically Correct crap all started, how strange it all sounded. Just like propaganda.
Smoking is bad, but not nearly as bad as, being a liberal.
I know. Sickening. :(
So you are self-centered as well.
You want YOUR rights to come before the rights and the health of others.
Very liberal.
Negative ghost rider, its a COURT ORDER!!!
So is smoking tobacco in many places.
I've never seen the likes.......being able to buy a legal product but being treated like a criminal for using it.
~sigh
You are precisely correct. My sentiments precisely.
You are precisely correct. My sentiments exactly.
I see your point about the validity of passing laws to protect the rights of citizens from being infringed, but I don't think I'm using the same argument as the "pro-choice" abortion crowd. The unborn child has no say. The wronged smoker can choose to go elsewhere.
You want YOUR rights to come before the rights and the health of others.
No, I want the market to decide. I am not trying to impose laws on others.
Very liberal.
You are confusing liberalism with liberty. They are distinct.
Not lets see. Liquor is legal, but if I drink it in my car they treat me like a criminal.
Excuse me, I meant to say the wronged non-smoker.
>.being able to buy a legal product
As many have said wait til the food cops are on. Smaller portions for higher prices, much like many establishments have already done with food and beverages after the smoking bans in bars have kicked in.
I believe that God cares more about what comes out of our body's then what goes in.
A lot of hate can come out. Our souls are our temples. Our bodies shrivel up and turn back to dust.
