Just reported on AntenaTV. One of the satelite TV channels recieved in the USA. Chinese reporters were arrested for photographing patriot missile batteries control areas.

Greek security has established "secure zones" relating to security which are forbiden for any reporters to cover. These are control areas, and areas relating to security and counter terrorism.

The Chinese were not the only reporters caught. Greek security reported that they were in a forbidden zone and when caught and confronted they suddenly went "stupid". (forgive the transaltion is not exact, essentially the chinese reporter though by acting stupid the security would be fooled and release them)

Secrity is showing no mercy to reporters. Also arested were a British repoter for the Observer. (the british have been particularly brutal in greek coverage and sky news has earned the ire of the nation after a video clip of a reporter ridiculing the greek national athem made the rounds.)

Other reporters arrested were Mexican reporters who also violated secure zones.

Reporters are on notice that officials are now considering incacerating further violators until the end of the games and THEN expelling them out of the country.

Anyone working for a 'news agency' from a country with a government-controlled press is not a reporter. Propagandist/spy is more accurate.

Funny thing. About a year and a half ago, World Net Daily had enormous trouble getting press credentials to cover the Senate while Xinhua was allowed in. WND finally had to threaten a lawsuit to be allowed in.

About a year ago, when I was at Accuracy In Media, we were rejected by the State Dept because AIM was deemed to be -- without giving reasons -- not a 'real' news org. I tried to explain to them that AIM would be there to cover the media and compare the coverage to what actually happened. The last I heard, AIM is still awaiting a response.

I'll bet that 'reporters' from several dictatorships are indeed allowed in however.

It started out as a regular broadcast channel when Greek television was deregulated. When digital satelite came into existence, the name carried over as brand recognition.
