John O'Neill To Be On Hardball Tonight
Hardball | 8/12/04 | Chris Matthews

Posted on 08/12/2004 4:04:32 PM PDT by pookie18

Since O'Neill will be the guest, I'm sure it will be "hardball". However, after what he encountered on Crossfire with Carvile (sic) & Leapin' Lanny Davis, this'll probably feel like a walk in the park...

Did more than the President for his country?

President Bush has signed Form 180 releasing all his military records. Kerry hasn't.

And did you catch the evil smirk on Hurley's face when Chris tried to dress down O'Neill about the "clock" thing? It made me sick.

Chris failed (miserably) to recognize the FACT that he had a Vietnam veteran seated right in front of him who served his country in Vietnam LONGER than Kerry did.

There are people that really do think that conservatives are evil and cruel people. I've read some actual otherwise normal people give their rationale about STILL being a dem. Although, I think O'Neill is more of a JFKENNEDY Dem, than what the party has become. More like a Zel Miller.

For O'Neill this has nothing to do with politics, only the truth.

O'Neill is soft spoken and polite ... Matthews is a complete ahole and has the nerve to accuse O'Neill of whining about not getting enough time. What a tool.

O'NEILL SHOULD SUE CARVILLE, DAVIS, MATTHEWS, AND HURLEY.

ALL OF THOSE FOLKS HAVE CALLED HIM A LIER TODAY.

If he sues them.....then they have to actually look at the actions and try and prove that ONeill lied. That would destroy the dems...because then truth would get out.
ONeill would win the suit....and Matthews would be gone from the biz.

Well to be fair, there has never been any illusion, or for that matter any attempt to create an illusion, that Chris Matthews shields his opinions from public view on Hardball. He drives the show in the direction he thinks the right answer is, and that's obvious.

But I agree, he came off looking like a child, and Hurley like a robot programmed to throw ad hominem and non sequitur O'Neill's way. The only decent bit that he has is Elliot's positive report about Kerry.

That was a disgusting little scene.

Yes. He uses the fact that he actively avoided Vietnam as a basis for then saying every other man who did not go had the same motivation.

Both Matthews and Hurley were obviously agitated by Oneill in the closing comments. They can't stand the truth and they show it. What a coupld of toads!

No, ArmyBratproud, they don't have to do that. You have it backwards. If O'Neill sues them, it is O'Neill who has the burden of proof.

That is precisely why O'Neill has repeatedly called on Kerry to sue him if necessary: because then Kerry will be forced to bring out the documentation.

Plus O'Neill was not and is not (Lord, don't ask me why, he seems so sensible otherwise) a Republican.

He's on the Nixon tapes (he did not know he was being recorded) telling Nixon he was a democrat!

O'Neill has to have actual harm to his reputation, in order to sustain a defamation suit (libel or slander).

Fact is, the people calling O'Neill a liar (Carville, Davis, Hurley, Matthews and O'Reilly) have no credibility themselves, and therefore can't damage O'Neill's reputation.

Chris Matthews is a Kerry supporter. O'Neill is going to have to start getting louder and fight back harder if he is going to go against the likes of Carville and Matthews. O'Neill is a gentleman and Carville and Matthews hate that. At the end Matthews did his stupid schtick by not letting his guest talk and talking over him to prove a point. And conveniently the time was up.

Oh, I realize that Chris Matthews is a democrat down to his bones... but I've never seen his bias so blatantly on display... He absolutely ran down O'Neill and the President to make John Kerry look good. John Kerry...not worth it.
