NYC Welcomes GOP with 'Kill the President' Play

In advance of the GOP convention at the end of this month, New York City is being plastered with stickers that read, "I'm Gonna Kill the President" - supposedly an advertisement for a new off-Broadway play staged by the anti-war protest group United for Peace and Justice.

"It's the name of a new comedy to run in the East Village during the Republican Convention," WABC Radio's George Weber reported Tuesday morning.

Weber called the box office to find out what could be funny about the murder of an American president, and got this recorded response:

"Howdy," chirped a spokesman. "You've reached the information and instruction hotline for, 'I'm Gonna Kill the President - a Federal Offense."

The unidentified voice goes on to explain that that the play is the story of a young man's plot to kidnap the president in hopes of sparking a revolution that installs a puppet Democracy - featuring real puppets.

The play also includes an audience participation segment where theater-goers are supposed to crank call the White House to demand that President Bush end the war in Iraq.

"If you're some kind of law enforcement agent or official, hang up now," the information hotline concludes. "There's nothing illegal happening here. Just some old-fashioned, constitutionally sanctioned fun."

After Weber's report, WABC's "Curtis & Kuby Show" was deluged with callers outraged over the radical thespian stunt.

Even Communist lawyer-turned-commentator Ron Kuby sounded irked, explaining, "Generally speaking, you cannot directly threaten the president's life." While the play might be "on proper side of the first amendment," he said, "it's not by much."

"First a book to be published around the convention where two people discuss how to kill the president and now this.
Time for the FBI to step in."

I agree and while they do this - SHUT DOWN THIS PLAY and arrest the author of the book. This is insane.

I have read threats of civil disobedience and violence if Pres. Bush wins reelection. Have seen Democrat hatred and nobody hates like a Democrat. When President wins, look for some members of the left to become violent.

Glad to see you included the entire play title this time. It's an advertisement for a satirical play. You expect them to satirize the satire? Gettin' a bit meta for me.

These guys consisently get away with threats of murder under the guise of 'satire' and the such.

There is a point where satire crosses the line.

What, pray tell, is your real name?

Do you mind if we put up posters which say:

"KILL CHILD RAPISTS NAMED (YOUR NAME)!"

Let's say we post a thousand of them all around your town, especially near your house.

Free speech, right? It's not actually saying YOU area child rapist. It's just saying "Kill child rapists, who might have your name."

Free speech?

So come on, tell us your real name, and address, okay?

So where is your answer to my question?

Or are you just another typical leftist coward?

I would answer it were it relevant. Instead, you went off on a tangential screed.

Anyway, you jumped into the middle of a conversation I was having with someone else. In fact, you were responding to my question, "What about the play, besides its title, offended you?"

So why don't you answer that question first, since that's where we began.

...stickers that read, "I'm Gonna Kill the President"

If the stickers read, "I'm Gonna Kill Jesse Jackson". wouldn't that be considered hate speech?
