CNN Promises To Delete GOP F-Words
Broadcasting & Cable ^ | 8/9/2004 | Bill McConnell

Posted on 08/10/2004 4:26:40 AM PDT by mhking

Despite CNN’s balloon fiasco at the Democratic convention, the cable net is hoping GOP officials will let it patch in to party convention producers in New York three weeks from now.

A similar hook-up caught Democratic producer Don Mischer’s f-word punctuated outburst when balloons failed to drop at the close of presidential nominee John Kerry’s acceptance speech.

CNN VP for news and production David Bohrman doubts Republicans will allow live access, but is still holding out hope for access to the feed if CNN promises to delay re-airing to make sure no obscenities slip by.

"We’re committed to is giving viewers a feel of what it’s like to actually be at the convention and what it’s like to put on the show," he said.”

Bohrman also said he’s happy CNN’s set will again be nestled among the delegates rather than in a skybox booth when Republicans convene at Madison Square Garden.

CNN’s floor set in Boston did have drawbacks, including a cumbersome microphone system needed for anchors to be heard over the roar of the convention floor.

Despite frazzled nerves generated as CNN crews rushed to hook up guests before airtime, Bohrman wants more of the wireless mikes. CNN International also should be outfitted with a few, he says. In Boston, CNN International’s reporters in their booth were drowned out a few times by the hoopla below.

Bohrman, who produced CNN’s coverage from a control room, in Atlanta says he also wants to increase the number of communications lines to camera men from four to six.

THE REAL DEAL:

Ted Turner, June 18, 2002:
"So who are the terrorists?
I would make a case that both sides are involved in terrorism.

I wouldn't allow CNN in the room.

I don't trust them....they orchestrate news.

CNN should be treated just like al Jazeera.

Amazing. The Dems misbehave, the headline says 'we won't let the GOP get away with it.'

No, they just drop the "F", like so "This Riday were driving the Ord to Lorida". Takea a special audio processor, not cheap.

I'd bet money that they're somehow joined at corporate level.

Good catch. A lot of headline skimmers are scratching their head thinking, "Did the GOP use the F-word? What a bunch of creeps those Republicans are! And look! CNN is covering for the Republicans -- promising to hush it all up! Yeah, the press really is owned by the Conservatives. Michael Moore was right."

Problem is ... Dick Cheney kicked the moral high-ground out from under the GOP.

While John Kerry was roundly condemned for using language that many consider inappropriate, that's largely dropped away, because of the VP's intemperate comment.

You ae right, however - the headline is (at best) misleading.

yeah, i could believe CNN would remove all references to faith, or freedom for example, which must be particulary distasteful to the Communist News Network...

I think saying something to someone in the heat of an arguement is completely different then using fowl language in a magazine interview.

Nobody would have even heard about the incident if it weren't for Leahy running to the media.

Cheney's F bomb was like cursng at someone who cut you off in traffic.

Kerry on thed other hand was sitting for an interview with Rollingstone when he cursed.
Kerry knew that people would be reading it.
He was "trying" to be cool.
Too bad nobody told him Rollingstone is so not "cool" anymore.

The Vice President's comment was only heard round the world because Leaky Leahy ran as quickly as he could to the media to tattle about it.

A real man would have kept it between the two of them. But libs are very much girlies.

The difference being that there is no physical evidence (video or audio recording) that Cheney actually did this. The story came from the mouth of Patrick Leahy. I'm not even sure if Cheney even acknowledged that he said it?
