Does anyone here volunteer or work for FEMA? I ask because I really have to wonder about our ability to react to a major disaster (re: Hurricane Charley). If, God forbid, we're struck again by terrorists in a major way - judging from the reports of disorganization we're getting from Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte and Arcadia - we're going to be in a world of hurt.

I'm only 35-40 miles away from that area and yet I feel helpless. I want to help out, but they're telling everyone to stay away. There are a lot of strapping young men like myself (hee-hee) who would love to volunteer.

Maybe I'm overreacting - they can use Charley as a real test.

God bless America.

The devastation is so vast and complete, it's going to take time. The good news, I see is that folks from Sanibel and a few other areas are already heading back home. Are you an amateur radio enthusiast? They're calling for volunteers:

I bet the Salvation Army (Florida branch) would love to have your assistance.
Why not check with them?
