I've actually only had to deal with Andrew. when I lived in Lantana; all the others I've survived were tropical storms that brushed the Tampa Bay area and directly hit (like Gabrielle in September 2001). We've been pretty damn lucky ... till now.

Final note about law enforcement reminisces:

Back in the early-mid 80's, Oklahoma taught fast draw techniques as part of the State Law Enforcement Academy. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol carried open top bucket holsters with a thumb strap that may or may not be latched, and preached about marksmanship and quick draw principles.

It saved my life a few times. I dont know if they still do or not, but it was really valuable training.

I went out with a Virginia law Enforcement officer to the range a few months back (this person was picking on me about being old and slow since I retired-LOL). At the 25 yard line I drilled every round through the bull, and then I went into non-aimed reflexive quick draw techniques ( for close encounters) at 7 yards.

Drew from the hip and drilled the bull every time without my arm leaving my hip area...they freaked!

Freaked even more when I told them it was standard training when I did academy and people failed out of the academy if they didnt master it.

I dont get accused of losing my edge anymore..LOL
