527'S SHOW ME THE MONEY! SWIFTIES VS MOVEON.ORG
deep freep and the irs | 08/09/2004 | deep freep

Below is a comparison of the 527 filings for MoveOn and the Swifties. The media is haveing a meltdown because someone other than the radical left has formed a 527 corporation. A 527 formed by anyone with a message not deemed in accordance with the MSM's leftist apologetics is a tool of the RNC and the Bush adminstration, while MoveOn.org's millions from Soros go unmentioned.

So, look who has more money and more large donors. Keep this in mind while the media tries to smear the Swfties and paint them as tools of the right-wing.

You can look up the 527 filings at the IRS website. The EIN's are listed below.

WHERE WAS THE OUTRAGE ABOUT MOVEON.ORG'S COMMERICIALS?????

Remember how Move On openly asked for money for Kerry's campaign? A flagrant violation of the rules. But that's ok. Rules are for Republicans.

When it finally got noticed, the guy who was running Move On's money raising for Kerry then moved over to work on Kerry's campaign directly.

What a shock!

The MoveOn family of organizations consists of three entities. MoveOn.org, a 501(c)(4) organization, primarily focuses on education and advocacy on important national issues. MoveOn PAC, a federal PAC, primarily helps members elect candidates who reflect our values. And MoveOn.org Voter Fund, a 527 organization, primarily educates voters on the positions, records, views, and qualifications of candidates for public office.

I believe the 527 section of the tax code existed before McCain's Campaign Finance Reform was passed. McCain didn't expect the pubbie chairman of the Federal Election Commission to believe in the 1st Amendment.

Besides Soros, another bigwig is Peter Lewis from Progressive Insurance, IIRC. But there are plenty of other left-wing big-shots donating. Tax-deductibility is determined by Congress or the IRS.

In answer to your questions, we know who the sponsors of MoveOn.org are. The lamestream media are hiding that info because they are bigots for the left.

McCain came up with this stupid scheme because he wanted "to make his mark on national policy" and he's incapable of thinking the subject to its logical conclusions.

My understanding is that these organizations are NOT tax-deductible.

Disclaimer: I am NOT an expert :)

But, it is my understanding that PACs, 527s and 501 (c) (4)s are tax exempt, meaning they do not pay income tax like a regular corporation would. And donations to them are NOT tax deductible to the donor.

A 501 (c) 3 organization, on the other hand, is tax exempt just like the others, but donations ARE tax deductible to the donor (eg: American Heart Assoc, etc.).

As you might expect, it is harder to get a c3 approved by the IRS than the others.

You are correct. We were both saying the same thing in different ways. All non-profits do not pay tax on their "income." But tax deductibility is the key factor in fund-raising.

A legitimate charity that has tax deductibility has this unique benefit. A donor in the 50% marginal tax bracket can give them $1,000 at a cost of only $500, because he saves the other $500 in taxes he doesn't have to pay.
