We'll punish Bushes at the polls, immigrants promise

Immigrant voters will show their displeasure with the Bush brothers for not doing enough to help undocumented migrants become legal, advocates say.

Leaders of several immigrant and labor rights organizations in South Florida on Thursday accused President Bush and his brother, Gov. Jeb Bush, of failing to keep promises to help undocumented migrants legalize their presence.

At a Miami news conference, speakers for the groups said immigrants who have become American citizens will vote against candidates who have not helped advance proposals that would enable illegal migrants to achieve legal status. The proposals are two congressional bills that would put migrant farmworkers and children of undocumented migrants on a track to legal residency and a plan to grant temporary residency to undocumented migrants from Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

''Immigrants are paying attention and, come Election Day, they will cast their ballots for public officials who deliver on their promises, not for those who continue to make empty promises,'' said Eliseo Medina, executive vice president of Service Employees International Union.

Taylor Gross, a White House spokesman, said President Bush is working with Congress in shaping his guest-worker program. Jacob DiPietre, a Gov. Bush spokesman, said his boss was studying the proposal.

Activists at the news conference said President Bush had offered to grant temporary work permits to illegal migrant workers but had done little to advance the project, and had also not objected to Republican lawmakers in Congress blocking a separate bill giving residency to migrant farmworkers.

They also took Gov. Bush to task for not following up on his recent statement that he would be ''inclined'' to support temporary protected status for Haitians. Immigrant advocates said the offer should also be extended to Dominicans.

DiPietre said Gov. Bush realizes only the federal government can grant temporary status.

Being a legal immigrant myself, I find this fascinating. I know many many other legal immigrants, and can't recall a single one ever making a statement even remotely similar to this.

However, I have heard many many illegal, criminals from south of the border and the cockroaches who feed on them make non-sequiturs like that constantly. Only trouble is, "illegal voters" can't vote, last time I checked.

The legal ones are complaining that their extended family members at large cannot vote?….That's for now, but given that federal law requires the Drives license applicants to receive voters registration, here in California the fear is many will be voting when the drivers license for illegals are approved unless the IDs differentiates between legal and illegal, which is a main point of contention now in the state assembly. It may be illegel to vote, but just like it is illegal to be here to begin with, it will be impossible tio enforce.

There are even two counties in California now toying with the idea of illegels voting "legally" in local school board elections, so voting rights for foreigners in our country is underway, and once complete, any citizen of the world will be able to vote in our elections then there will be really no privilege left to be a US citizen, in fact it will be a hindrance, since at least these people are also members of another country like Mexico which allows dual citizenship for example to receive some benefits, such as voting and land ownership, banking ect for which we cannot.

Let me see if I have this straight: people who came here legally are going to vote against Bush because he won't help the people who broke the law to get here?

Nope. This article is balony. Even illegals who have been here long aren't thrilled with massive immigration keeping their wages way down. The immigrants for the most part will vote democratic though because that's the same way they vote back home. Crossing the Rio Grande doesn't turn you into an automatic Republican when your family has voted PRI party for many generations.

Just who and what states are allowing them to freely vote? They are not qualified to do so, unless I have lost something here.

Not to worry!

Kerry is going to have teams of tens of thousands of attorneys making sure no illegal voting takes place!

Massive vote fraud. Go to a Mexican precinct on voting day --- watch what proof is needed to vote. People with no ID, no voter registration, unable to speak a word of English. Last presidential election, there were radio stations in Juarez telling people that it was election day in the USA and to try to get over to vote.

I'm not seeing that. I know more blacks personally who are for Bush than Latinos. They are big Kerry buffs. Guess it's the circle we run in.

The invasion has a strong foothold.

Lenin once said that he would sell capitalists the rope to hang themselves.

Greed has indeed set the stage for America's slow death as the once great culture is eroded and despoiled by foreign invaders.

I don't think previous election results show it either --- the areas along the border went strongly for Gore last election. The more Mexican-immigrant the precinct, the more heavily democrat the votes are. The only Mexican immigrants who vote Republican are the professional class, the middle class who came here legally and they were less likely to have been PRI party voters back home.

Okay, first off, it's not "undocumented migrants," it's illegal aliens. The Leftists need to stop trying to pass this Orwellian newspeak off as reality.

Secondly, legal immigrants have no love of illegal immigrants. And considering that simple fact, I sincerely doubt that legal immigrants who can vote will do any "punishing" of Bush at the polls.

This whole thing stinks of another Leftist hit piece in which they're trying to forward their socialist fiction as fact.

All can who can pass background checks by returning to Mexico, applying for legal immigration --- but that means standing in line with the others who are trying to do it legally. Many have previous deportation orders that they are disobeying -- and they would have a 5 year wait.

I suspect that it is just time to increment globalization of borders and this presidential term is the time to ramp it up. Bush has his marching orders. It sounds tinfoil hat, I know, but is the only explaination to covers all the inexplicable events in the face of popular opposition.

Immigrants want the freebees the dems are buying their votes with....

If Pres Bush does not stop immigration and close the borders....the Pubbies are going to see votes evaporate from their more conservative base-...

-As more and more reports surface testifying to the the reality of the hell created on this side of the
border...by illegal alien invaders...(if you can really call it 'a border' anymore)

imo

THIS IS WHY FREEPERS MUST, I tell you MUST, be manning the polls. NOT as a watcher, but if you can as the election judge. You have the power to issue bench warrants that day. Arrest them, illegals should not be voting!!!

The rules have changed in Texas and now when you challange a voter on the legality of them voting, their ballot IS NOT COUNTED, until after being verified as to eligiblity to vote.

They used to drop thier ballot in the box, but not now. The only way to challenge a voter it to be in the poll as a voter when they come in, or one of the workers of the poll. Not even the watcher can challenge the voter.

I think we've passed the tipping point, where pols of both parties are more afraid of offending hispanics than protecting our vote.

I'm just so very happy that we welcomed these immigrants to our country and citizenry so they could "punish" those who believe that being here illegally shouldn't be rewarded.
