Vanity - President Bush's campaign stop in Columbus, Ohio
August 5, 2004 | Loyal Buckeye

Posted on 08/05/2004 2:52:47 PM PDT by Loyal Buckeye

I was one of the fortunate ones to attend the President's campaign event in Columbus today.

Pres. Bush was outstanding; he was on stage for 90 minutes. The first part of his presentation included many of the campaign things he has previously said. The President obviously received the best response when he spoke of things related to national security, including 911, the military, first responders, and the action/approach he has taken to protect America. Comments about keeping families strong and the tax cuts were also received well, as was the rest of his speech.

The second part was when he interacted with individuals who told of their own experiences with specific topics he wanted to cover. One individual, a 53 year old woman, told of how she received training (paid for through some Federal program) and was able to secure employment after being unemployed; a second spoke about a joint venture between a non profit hospital network and local community college formed to train workers for jobs with the hospital network (higher paying jobs and all training costs paid by the hospitals); a young couple spoke of how they were able to refinance their home (lower interest rates) and pay bills related to the husband's education and the tax relief they have received from Pres. Bush's tax cuts ($2,300/yr.); a self-employed engineer described how he uses a medical insurance policy having a high deductible coupled with a medical savings account to cut his monthly health premiums by more than 50%; and, lastly, a CEO described how tax changes have helped his company and customers afford the purchase of equipment. I thought Pres. Bush did an outstanding job interacting with these individuals and acted almost like a college prof. in educating his audience about these topics. I think we will hear a lot more about these topics during the convention and throughout the campaign.

During the last part of his presentation, he took questions from the audience. He answered the questions and was very humorous not only during this part, but throughout his whole presentation.

I, for one, am very appreciative that the President spent so much time with the audience. He did an outstanding job and the whole audience loved it.

He also stayed for another 30 minutes or so working the crowd and signing autographs.

We arrived at about 9:15a.m. and found a two long lines; the President did not start until 1:00p.m.

Security was tight and we were not allowed to leave the building until after the President left.

The whole experience was terrific.

Did Bush make any jokes about Kerry's having said, to a Michigan crown recently, how much he (Kerry) "love[d] Buckeye football!"?

I don't think so. I think Pat Tiberi, our congressman, did.

Gotcha. You have to be sure to deliver Ohio to Bush now! I left Ohio at 18 for California in the 1980s and have little hope for THIS state ...

FYI, the following is done by one of your fellow Columbus residents - I would imagine that he was not pleased about this visit - click here to see how the Chi Com bootlicking, Bush bashing S.L. Lee and his ilk are aiding and abetting the radical Left and working to undermine Bush.

Thanks for the account! I was hoping to make it over there, but didn't. Did you happen to hear the way they talked about it on the radio this afternoon? They said that there were "many more protestors than fans", and then they qualified that by adding "on the route to where Bush was speaking", as if he has no local support here! Balderdash!

I saw no protestors. I think the news said a couple hundred, but am not totally sure on that one.

The attendance to the campaign event was limited due to seating and was by invitation only. The place was packed with people standing.

at my daughter's small private Christian school one of the mothers was giddy about the fact she was going too. I'm glad to hear that it was a great stop for him.

I'm pretty sure we could deliver central Ohio to him. So many Bush/Cheney stickers here. It seems like the complete opposite of some of the reports of what is seen in your neck of the woods.

That is such rubbish isn't it. From the accounts I've heard there were 20k people on the inside alone. The news showed about a dozen of the usual suspects in all their idiocy gathered against his visit.

I expect to have the same experience when hr comes to Milwaukee on Friday. I hope to get a chance to tell him how much he is loved and respected in our household.

The 20,000 was a number they talked about at yesterday's rally at Nationwide. The beginning of this thread was talking about when Bush came through Columbus in early August at the Aladdin Shrine center near Easton. I think things are looking very hopeful for Bush here in Columbus. Let's pray that the whole state will swing his way vs. Communist Kerry!
