Swift Boat Veterans For Truth Responds To Senator McCain
Thu Aug 05 2004 17:10:20 ET
"Swift Boat Veterans for Truth has more than 250 members, many of whom were wounded or highly decorated in Vietnam.
We purchased with our blood and service the right to be heard, to set the record straight about our unit, and to tell the truth about John Kerry's military service record.
We respect Senator McCain's right to express his opinion and we hope he extends to us the same respect and courtesy, particularly since we served with John Kerry, we knew him well and Senator McCain did not."
Rear Admiral Roy Hoffmann (ret.), Founder and Chairman of Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

Just one e-mail won't make an impact, but if we send him 20, he is bound to take notice.

Good analogy. People don't seem to understand that these guys operated out of a support base. More than likely, they slept in hooches and ate in mess halls part of the time. They could go to the "O" Club and have a beer. There was plenty of personal interaction.

He said it was "dishonest and dishonorable", implied the RNC was behind it and called on President Bush to strongly condemn the ad.

McCain needs to answer these questions:
You're calling the ad 'dishonest.' Which of these vets is lying, John? And how do you know? You're calling the ad, 'dishonorable.' How is it dishonorable for these decorated vets to express their knowledge and opinions, any more than it's dishonorable for vets who support Kerry to express theirs?

Thanks. I'll check back here hoping you've posted it.

Smear Boat Veterans for Bush
The "swift boat" veterans attacking John Kerry's war record are led by veteran right-wing operatives using the same vicious techniques they used against John McCain four years ago.

The latest conservative outfit to fire an angry broadside against John Kerry's heroic war record is "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" , which today launches a campaign to brand the Democrat "unfit to serve as commander in chief." Billing itself as representing the "other 97 percent of veterans" from Kerry's Navy unit who don't support his presidential candidacy, the group insists that all presidential candidates must be "totally honest and forthcoming" about their military service.
These "swift boat vets" claim still to be furious about Kerry's 1971 Senate testimony against the war in which he spoke about atrocities in Indochina's "free fire zones." More than three decades later, facing the complicated truth about Vietnam remains difficult. But this group's political connections make clear that its agenda is to target the election of 2004.
Behind the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth are veteran corporate media consultant and Texas Republican activist Merrie Spaeth, who is listed as the group's media contact; eternal Kerry antagonist and Dallas attorney John E. O'Neill, law partner of Spaeth's late husband, Tex Lezar; and retired Rear Adm. Roy Hoffman, a cigar-chomping former Vietnam commander once described as "the classic body-count guy" who "wanted hooches destroyed and people killed."

I was on FR at the time, and I tried to post "HEY Rush is mentioning Paul's photo right now!", but the site just staggered, gasped, and died before I could even hit the Post button. It happened that fast. Too many people wanting to see what Rush was laughing at.

I thought that was even exaggerated. IIRC, in that pix he had been showing most of those with him turned out to be against him. I thought they were enlisted or part of his crew.

Kerry had no respect for the medals or the military. This is why it did not disturb him to obtain them over any excuse. McCain's claim to fame is his own imprisonment and the ability to attack sKerry will mean they will attack McCain's heroics in 2008.
It must be an issue of politicians sweating their service.
(odd how nobody asked medal winner oliver north about this issue.)

Statement from the Rear Admiral that heads the SBVfT, that the SBV paid for the right to make their statements with their own blood That is a very powerful statement, indeed.
BTW, Rush just played excerpts from the February press briefing of Scott McClellan when the issue of GWB's national guard service was resurrected. I and others watched thing live when it happened and the press was a pack of rabid hyenas. It illustrates they ARE willing to question the service of a public official if they are against that person. They are willing to believe the flimsiest and phoniest of allegations if the aim is to bring down a Republican.
Let these Swiftvets step forward and they are ignored or denounced. It isn't right and it will not be tolerated.

"...but the boats operated together in groups of at least three and they were within yards of one another. They lived and ate together."You keep saying this, but it isn't really true. Depended where and what the ops were...boats operated independantly of each other all the time...went out for three-day patrols and often times never saw another boat.
I understand the point you are trying to make; however, making the point using erroneous info. doesn't work.

I reffered someone to SwiftVets.com, but they typed in SwiftBoatVets.com and got redirected to Salon.com. I checked it and sure enough, you get sent to a page at Salon, denouncing the SwiftVets.

I understand the point you are trying to make; however, making the point using erroneous info. doesn't work. So they NEVER worked with each other or met each other in the 3 1/2 months of Kerry's service enough to judge he is lying about his tales? We already know the guy that treated Kerry was near him during battle.
