You might want to consider not being the thread nanny; but it's too late for that.

All the Ill. GOP is doing now,is trying to fill an empty spot on the ticket.

Then it makes no sense to choose Keyes. Any one of their alternatives would have filled an empty spot on the ticket. There are hundreds of possible motivations to choosing Keyes over the others--some honorable and most not, but now we have a decision to make (or will once a decision is made). Are we going to support him or not?

If you cannot countenance what he stands for, by all means, do not sacrifice your conscience. But if your only problem is style...if Keyes will do the things he speaks about...and if you too support these things which are, after all, in the Republican Platform, why not do all you can do to give him a shot? If he will not or cannot deliver while in office, can he really be any worse than Obama? You can, after all, get rid of him in the next election cycle. The people who will work to put Keyes in office will not work for him again if he breaks campaign promises.

The Dems, on the other hand, will elect Obama if he breaks campaign promises. "Lying" is all relative anyway. And you can't legislate morality (sarcasm off).

Speaking of people who gotten uglier as the thread has gotten longer, you started out blazing and are still at it.

If you can't take the heat and all that...as I recall, you had plenty to say about Arnold. Try to let others do as you do, not as you say.

Do you believe the RINO leadership wants Keyes to win?

There are plenty of RINOs who want Alan to fail. Plenty of evidence of that right here on FR tonight.

But the actual Republican leadership, in Congress, the White House and the GOP definitely want Alan to win.

I expect their full support.

There's certainly a difference. Alan's a conservative. Arnold's a liberal.

I make no apologies for who I support.

We'd be lucky to get him there.

I absolutely agree. But some of these freepers sound like they'd rather have Obama.

If there's a better, more qualified conservative candidate available for this race than Alan Keyes then let him step forward. In the meantime, if Alan accepts the challenge, I'd be proud to support him 100%! Go Alan!! I pray you get the job!!

By any means necessary.

I wouldn't go that far.

If you can't take the heat and all that...

Funny. If I couldn't take the minor heat of a couple of bitter people ragging on conservatives, you would have run me out of here four years ago.

Yours is one of the longest running vendettas I've ever observed.

I'd hate to miss the next installment.

There's certainly a difference.

The difference being that you support them, I suppose.

You were nasty as hell to the people who supported Arnold and now you're being nasty as hell to people who question Keyes' words.

I AM a thread nanny, at least as far as you're concerned, and your worst nightmare. I'm wide awake, and on guard for repetitious and silly comments. Funny how I keep tripping over your posts when doing patrol.

To paraphrase Robert Duvall, I think some FReepers are confused.

I'd love to see a strong personality like Keyes have a voice in the Senate. I'm not sure that, over time, state legislatures would refrain from appointing similarly-skilled politicians from out of state to hone their craft while wielding power in the US Senate.

Running Keyes against Osama Obama is a fascinating experiment.

We'd be lucky to get him there.

Yep.

Obama's "flaws" are all out in the open.He hasn't hidden things like pot and cocaine use.

Places outside of Chicago are RABIDLY for Obama and EVERYONE is talking about him.

Keyes is a carpetbagger, should he accept the proffered crown. He's also not all that well known in most of Ill.and IF he acts the way he usually does, whether some people here are willing to face it or not,he IS A HUGH turnoff.

Blacks will NOT vote for him.

College towns like Evanston and Champaign-Urbana will NOT vote for him.

He will have very little help/organization and no money to speak of.

Obama will eat him alive.

All the Dems will have to do is exploit what he said about Hillary, that he's now doing the sames thing, and that the GOP in Ill. had to go out of state to find somebody to fill Ryan's spot...And it's all over. And they can also pull up Alan's own words, said AGAINST President Bush.hey,if he won't support the president, from his own party, why should anybody else?

And then there's the Daly MACHINE! It may not be as good as it was under his father, but sonny boy won't fail the Dems.

But I don't like the precedent, and I don't like what the state party has become, and I don't feel that just smiling and pretending this is wonderful is the right thing to do.

The precedent is already set. There is nothing hypocritcal about adapting to rule changes the other party has forced.

You're still missing the point, Barry Goldwater is no Barry Goldwater after he lost, because the whole point is not for Barry Goldwater to be somebody, but to lay the groundwork so Ronald Reagan can be somebody.

The same is true here, Keyes will in all probability lose, but he will lay the foundation for a GOP revival, nominating a GOP candidate that voted Democratic in the last 3 elections, and gave money to multiple democratic candidates in the past, is not the answer.

Once again, I challenge the people who criticize to answer one thing: stop criticizing, and name your alternative, it's easy to be on the sidelines and be a critic, tell us who you would put on the ticket, and explain why that pick is better than Keyes. Until any of you do that, you cannot be taken seriously

There you go again, trying to insinuate that you alone are the conservatives on this site; this is SOP for the Keyes people.

Yours is one of the longest running vendettas I've ever observed.

If you call not forgetting things that Alan Keyes have said that have hurt this party and our president a "vendetta," I guess you're right.
