Do you want Keyes to win, or what? Do you want to lose this Republican seat to the Democrats, and make it that much harder for Bush to pull through any of his agenda or appointments? We NEED this seat!

The national party has written Illinois off. Believe me, if they hadn't, we wouldn't be talking about Alan Keyes now.

I thought I made myself clear but I'll try again.

Like Alan, I am an unabashed pro lifer who keeps that message in front of the public by pasting it on all my cars rear windows. We are also both unapologetic Christians and social conservatives. In the past I have donated to Alan even when he was running against President Bush in the primaries. Full disclosure demands I admit to donating 20 times more to Bush.

However, like I said, I don't like carpetbaggers of either party.

And as for donating money to others I just donated a 100 bucks to the Swift Vets to get their ad air time. How about you?

Sorry. I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but sometimes we have to face the truth. Keyes doesn't have a chance against Obama.

You don't know what you're talking about.

I seriously doubt you've looked at the numbers.

Keyes doesn't stand a chance. Obama is the media's favorite puppet.

IMHO media bias will be offset by those who won't vote for anybody named "Obama" no matter what the issues are. Chicago is pretty weird, but Illinois isn't exactly Kalifornia.

I think Dr. Keyes has a great chance of winning.
Obama will only get the left-wing extremists.

Dunno...I can hardly believe it, if it's true...one thing's for sure, the eyes of the world will be on this election.

Do you think we could get a fundraiser going?

How did you feel when Dick Cheney changed his Texas residency after decades so that he could meet the constitutional restriction on a POTUS and a vice-POTUS being from the same state?

Oooh... Great point.

You will be proved wrong.

Come back and talk to me later when you realize it.

He has no chance, EV, and you know it. He's late to the game, many won't vote for him because he's not a resident of the state, and he turns many people off, including many conservatives, with his haughty speaking style.

But, we've got seven new Republicans to elect in Texas, so we can fortify the House, so you go right ahead and work for Keyes.

I think the difference is that Hillary invited herself. While Keyes was asked to come, if the Illinois GOP felt that he better represent them than any other available candidate they can call upon, then that's good enough for me.

Bravo to you for putting things into the proper perspective. Yes, it is a long shot. But making Osama compete for a seat is worth it. Who knows, but in a blow-out election that Keyes might bring out enough Christian conservatives to put Illinois into play for the top of the ticket?

Riiiight. That's why the national party wasn't willing to put up any money. That's why the state party kept on talking about how they needed to find self-funded candidates. There are so many other examples of the Republicans turning states by offering no money and no support. How could I have been so blind to this brilliant secret plan?

Understood. How hard did you rail on the VP in 2000?

I realize he certainly had a history in WY, having served as their Congressman decades ago, but he had lived in Texas for a very long time.

Congrats on your donation.

"The defeatists here will not stop the momentum that is going to build for this candidacy from now to November 2nd. "

I know!! What the heck is the deal with people here??
This negativism is reminiscent of that which I've witnessed on DU forums. Keyes is as conservative as they come!!

FREEPERS should be supporting Kansas' Kris Kobach for Congress!!!! I really hope he holds on to his 87 vote lead after the provisional ballots are counted.

Conservatives aren't going to vote for Obama just because Keyes is from Maryland.

the eyes of the world will be on this election.

I'm not convinced yet, but I could be proved wrong by tomorrow. As of yet, CNN.com, MSNBC.com, FOXNEWS.com, etc., are saying nothing at all of the matter. "Nothing to see here, folks. The election's over already anyway. Go back to your homes," etc.

It's good though. Blacks will tune in to hear, and perhaps a few of them will realize that Keyes will be repeating what their pastors are telling them in the churches - pro life, anti gay marriage.

We'll know how dangerous he is by how hard the Demos try to keep him off the ballot through dirty tricks.

a candidate only gets a certain number of elections to be considered credible.

I tend to agree with you IN PART. WHich is to say, Keyes would do much better running in a conservative state. But remember that Lincoln himself, interestingly enough, lost some a few elections (including congressional elections) before making something of himself.

This is an important point.

Hilary picked New York because it was an easy win.

Keyes is being asked to place himself in an impossible situation. He has little chance to win, yet he is still willing to give himself to the cause. He probably won't win, but sometimes in life it's not about whether you win or lose, but how you fought the good fight.
