I was working with the river boats on the Mekong Delta from April 1970 through May 1971. I am a decorated combat veteran. I traveled across Vietnam a few times, including one trip to Da Nang on the DMZ. My experience in Vietnam can not be fully explained to one who was not there. Needless to say, the culture of war, and especially Vietnam, was "different" than the average American culture.

I arrived at LAX for 30 days Leave directly from Vietnam. As I walked through the terminal, my mind was spinning trying to reconcile my life over the past year and being home again. Certain things were not adding up for me and I needed to take a break and think things through, clear my head, leave Vietnam behind.

I took a seat in front of the terminal to take time to gain back the American culture and deal with the past year's experience. Three long-hairs walked by and one of them spat on the ground between my feet while the other two called me a "Baby Killer". I was frozen with shock and dismay. I carry that image with me to this day.

My (only) brother served as a crypto radio operator in an Army MP Battalion on the DMZ in 1969 through 1970. He experienced the same demeaning treatment when he came home.

I can tell you that from my experience in Vietnam, Kerry had to have had ulterior motives to wrangle his metals and purple harts out of only 4 months of service in-country.

Jane Fonda, John Kerry and the liberal press are responsible for the undue humiliation suffered by proud Veterans all across this great country on their return from Vietnam. Kerry's lies still live today in the minds of many Americans. There is NO WAY Kerry should get within 3,000 miles of the Presidency, he should Ditty Mau to some communist country where he can have the respect that he deserves.

Letter I received:
Congratulations on your powerful essay. I was a Navy psychiatrist from '67-'69, stationed at St. Albans Naval hospital in Queens, N.Y. I saw combat casualties who suffered all sorts of physical and psychological trauma. I heard many stories of extraordinary courage, as well as tales of horrific barbarism on the part of the VC (rarely reported in the American press). I developed enormous respect for our brave Marines and find myself enraged by John Kerry, not only for his original slanders, but also his despicable attempt to build a Presidential candidacy on his 4 months in Vietnam. Let's hope the American people wake up to the immense hypocrisy of his candidacy. Keep up the good work. I'm posting your essay on my blog: http://www.doctor-horsefeathers.com.

Like I posted earlier, I got termed a baby killer and got the $hit kicked out of me in a bar try6ing to defend the fact that I wasn't. Yes, it's ancient history now, but those "fond" memories(thanks to John and Jane) are still there. I absolutely dread the thought of being an American led by this treasonous man. What will it take to wake this 40-50% of our population that somehow thinks this man's(loose term) war record and ability to lead is sincere.

Go to www.wintersoldier.com for more scoop on the Kerrypooper.

Thanks. Been there many times. I know far more about this guy than I want to already. I hope the talk radio circuit that the Swiftboat guys are on this week gets some national attention. The American people need to get educated on who this guy REALLY is.

Take heart in knowing that thousands of us Vietnam Vets are talking to our friends, family members and anyone else that will listen that this despicable POS is a traitor of the first order and DOES NOT deserve to be Commander=In-Chief. Kerry-NOT NOW, NOT EVER.

Not far apart at all. Spent time at Tan Son Nhut also. The majority of my year was at Tuy Hoa in the 31st TFW and 39th ARRS (air rescue). I was an airborne navigational equipment repairman. Also worked flightline alert aircraft (f100 "lead sleds"). I'm glad you and I made it back. WELCOME HOME!

Aha. The old F-100's. Thanks to them, I lost a fair bit of my hearing. Old age is beginning to aggrevate that too.

I wear hearing aids in both ears now. Hearing loss was either listening to the Rolling Stones full blast or jet noise. "Paint it Black" was my favorite.

No hearing aids here yet, but not far off I'm sure. Jimmy Hendricks was more popular during my time.

I remember going to the Filmore in San Fran for a concert with The Who, Big Brother and the Holding Company and Jimi Hendrix. It cost us 3 GI's 75 cents each and once inside, a hippie chick gave us an apple to eat. On Janis' break..she said to us "y'all three look like GIs"." We are!" I said. "Come here boys an help me polish off this bottle of Southern Comfort" said Janis. Long story short we did. What a night we had.
