POSTED: 11:55 am EDT August 5, 2004 UPDATED: 2:28 pm EDT August 5, 2004 PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. -- A port terminal for a Disney cruise ship was briefly evacuated Thursday after a bomb-sniffing dog gave an alert while inspecting supplies being loaded aboard.
About 330 passengers were aboard Disney Wonder when the terminal at Port Canaveral was ordered closed at 9:25 a.m., Disney spokeswoman Rena Langley said. Passengers aboard the ship were asked to stay on the 964-foot vessel while those in the terminal were moved to a parking lot.
The Brevard County Sheriff's Officer bomb squad inspected a stack of mattresses on a pallet, and declared the area secure about 80 minutes later.
There was no indication why the dog, part of a private security firm contracted by the Canaveral Port Authority, gave the false positive. Sheriff's Lt. Vic DeSantis speculated that the pallet may once have held something that created the illusion a mattress hid an explosive device.
The Wonder had returned earlier Thursday from a four-day Caribbean cruise. Its next departure, scheduled for later Thursday, was not expected to be delayed.
The recently-posted sketch of an airplane flying into some kind of structure, and the target(s) being called "two bows" is something we could spend a bit more time brainstorming on.
The targets for Sept. 11 were called "the birthday cake" (Pentagon) and "two candles" or "two sticks" (WTC towers).
What could the "two bows" be? Oddly, the thought of Mickey and Minnie Mouse's ears came to my head... i.e., Disneyland and Disneyworld.
