Oh, no. Nothing to do with Threads, actually.
It's just what has always been evident to me. Nobody can protect us, not really. We have to be vigilant and wary, we have to take care of those around us.
We'll have to get to the point where people on a local/state level respond as was done in the Civil War.
Even the elderly, including my ancestor who was in his late 60s, very old then, was part of a state militia. He was one of those whose job it was to protect the bridges in his area. He was an immigrant, from Germany, and I can believe he must have been proud to protect his adopted land.
I only hope we have enough immigrants today who want to be true citizens of their new land, as he and my other ancestors were.

P.S. I was only kidding you about "Threads." Threads reminded me how some scenarios are futile, but that was only because I had been thinking too positively before I saw it. Threads offered a sober reality if an event on a large scale ever were to take place.
Miami-Dade County has the highest level of immigrant population of any city in the nation and I teach them. I hate to say, but my observations from the last eight years teaching in an inner city school is that these people have no desire whatsoever to "give back" anything to this country, nor do many of them wish to become citizens. They're here to take and take and take....and if that gets to be uncomfortable, they'll just go back to Haiti or wherever until it's a more favorable climate to take some more. I have stopped asking what percentage of my new classes are willing to sacrifice anything for this country, the percentages are just too depressing. My job is tough enough without that eating at my soul. But God is working in that school! I just found out today that by a miracle, the only three (myself included) conservative Republican Christian teachers in the school are handling all the American Government and economics classes!
