No national sales tax, no VAT tax. Flat tax and be done with it.

Long overdue. Rest assured, the Dem hacks will writhe and squeal like Dracula having a cross placed on his forehead!

Next to the income tax, social security is teat #2 for the ever-thirsty piglets of the jackass party. Without this free source of disposable income, their hellbent rush to socialism will be mercifully sidetracked.

Does anyone have a thought to what this would do to CPA's and tax preparers? It would put a lot of them out of business (as far as individual preparers).
Would they have other things to do? Would they need to seek another job market?

OK, so maybe I will vote instead of getting drunk this election day. If this is for real then the GOP just got me back on board.

Without actually repealing the 16th amendment, I suspect that eventually we will end up with both a national VAT and income tax.

YES!!!! YES!!!!! YES!!!!

If only this were true. The Republicans don't have the cajones to push this through. They can't/won't/don't even defend capitalism and free markets anymore. Pussies.

seems to me as long as it's only at the national level, bfd.
there's still state, county, city, school, excise, usage fees, telephone, bottle deposit, tobacco, alcohol...
well you get the picture.

VATs are bad. The NRST could work, but I would want the income tax taken out of the Constitution, first. Otherwise, we'll eventually have both, in exactly the same way that we got the income tax in the first place (it will only apply to the "very rich" and won't be very high...).

Tax reform is long overdue. But until the GOP puts its money where its mouth is...

Despite the questionability of this story, we could still try to get the WH to notice the issue and hopefully actually push for a sales tax to replace the income tax:

Andy Card's office phone at the WH: 202 456-1111 (found several...this may be incorrect...if so, just call the main WH number and ask for his office)
E-mail: acard@who.eop.gov

General e-mail: feedback@who.eop.gov

Bush campaign chair and former deputy assistant to the President (don't know if his WH addy will still work, but might as well give it a shot): Ken_Mehlman@who.eop.gov

The guy replacing Ken as deputy assistant (he meets with the President OFTEN): Matt_Schlapp@who.eop.gov

Note: some of the who.eop.gov addresses have changed from thte Firstname_Lastname form to firstinitiallastname@who.eop.gov (such as Andy Card's).....so may have to try that if the underline form does not work.

Karl Rove (have not found an e-mail, though you can try the forms above):

phone: 202-456-2369
fax: 202-456-0191

I did find an e-mail for this person in Rove's office though, Dave Thomas:

davidthomas@who.eop.gov

Of course, there is the old standbys:

President@whitehouse.gov
vice.president@whitehouse.gov

Phone: (202) 456 1414
General WH fax: (202) 456-2461
Alternate fax: (202) 456-6538

While this would be great if it did happen, radical change such as completely getting rid of the IRS just doesn't happen overnight. Start tearing down the pillars of Liberalism by gutting and doing away with such things as the NEA and NPR/PBS and then start aiming for the IRS. I believe at this point, doing away with the IRS is all but a lofty, yet, worthwhile goal to work toward.
