TOWN OF NEWBURGH, N.Y., July 31 -- John and Elizabeth Edwards celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary today, and they and this small upstate town will not soon forget it.
The John Kerry campaign pulled its 10-bus caravan up to Wendy's restaurant to accommodate the vice presidential couple, who had their first date at the fast-food restaurant and always dine there on their anniversary . This is not one they will soon forget because the celebration included John and Teresa Heinz Kerry, Tom Brokaw, George Stephanopoulos, and 100 members of the media.
"So you understand, this is our anniversary. We always celebrate our anniversary at Wendy's," Elizabeth Edwards told the clerk as she ordered her Classic Combo Single.
Ditto for her mate -- but he went with cheese. And John Kerry went for the Chili and chocolate frosty. The power couples certainly caused a stir -- but it was Ben Affleck who moved with a throng. A Democrat and friend of Kerry's, the movie actor said he joined the trip to learn about the political process and not always be around just for the glamorous work.

"I'm betting that Heinz-Kerry did not order or eat (note that her meal wasn't specified). "
I'll take your bet and raise it. She and John each had a photo oped cup of chili with a shake on the side sitting in front of them. I figure she never touched the chili, possibly sipped the shake.
(smile)
Here's to "Big Nell!!" (Native Newburghers will understand.)
"Girlie nails!"
I think it's sweet that they go slumming for their anniversary...
Yeah they're so "common" so middle class, just one of us (whatevah)
"My guess is that it's as studied and contrived as everything else about this doofus. He wants everyone to notice his right-hand nails are longer. Oh, he must be a really, really good guitarist! He is so talented - guitar, windsurfing, killing gooks - he does it all!!"
Yes, Kerry - Jack(azz) of all trades, master of none.
Maybe there is hope for American voters after all.
"Here's to Big Nell!" (Newburghers will understand).
Thanks Maggie!
What is with his LONG FINGERNAILS!!!!
YUCK! They do NOT belong on a man.
Oh, um, nevermind...
"I.....remember Big Nell. Big Nell was one of my best friends," (John Kerry)
LMAO
LMAO
"The interesting thing in this photo is the people sitting at the next table completely ignoring these stooges."
I'm sure those patrons were there on their lunch break and didn't want to return to work with indigestion from contact with the liberal bacteria in the room. LOL
Oh Gee .. what a romantic way to spend your Anniversary
Having 200 reporters and cameras shoved in your face
Can these people do anthing without making it a Photo Op??
You know, everytime I see him I think of one of the opening lines in the movie Rudy: "What a spazz!"
"...Long nails on one hand might mean he's a guitar player. . ."
Or a serious cocaine problem.
I bet he wets it down and packs it under his nails for a mid-day toot when he's feeling rundown.
Maybe it wasn't a salute after all, sure as hell didn't look like one. He was checking to see if he had enough coke left for the night.
And hey, did you hear he was in Vietnam?
"...She had the chili..."
please let it be the chili from last night. when the night shift was bored...
I can see it now...
Wendy's Guy #1: I'm bored.
Wendy's Guy #2: Me too.
Wendy's Guy #1: Hey, is that a cockroach?
Wendy's Guy #2: Yep.
Wendy's Guy #1: I've got an idea.
you never, never, never eat anything from those places like that. He'll probably show up at taco bell next week and order the nachos.
hehe. yeah, it's all cheese.
Oh yuck, you're right! How bizarre this all is...
