Even the campaign doesn't expect to reach 54 perce

Do you know why the ratings on the Democratic convention are the worst in History? Much of the Democratic base does not care enough about this election to watch their own convention.

They don't much care for Kerry and aren't mad enough at Bush to even watch Kerry's convention.

If Democrats won't watch the Democratic convention only a fool would believe they will show up at the polls in November. We are not looking at a 92 or 2000 turnout of 105 million. We are looking at a 1988, 1996 turn out of about 95 million. There will be 8 million fewer Democratic votes than there were in 2000 and 1992.

Democrats will not vote in this election by the millions. .. For the same reason Republicans by the millions did not vote in 1996.

I agree, this race is Bush's to lose. Unless he makes some ridiculously foolish blunder, he should cruise home. All he needs to do is highlight his record, and compare it to Kerry's. John Kerry is so afraid of his own record, he didn't mention it in the most important speech of his life tonight.

They care about the election, but only the part where they hate George Bush. The part where they're supposed to like John Kerry isn't happening.

Instead of 30 second commercials, Kerry should run 5 second spots that just say "John Kerry - He's Not Bush". So far he hasn't taken one other position.

Agreed. That's why I've been saying Bush by 10 points.

Kerry's speech, for what it's worth, wasn't that bad, but it wasn't memorable either. The one good soundbite line "Help is on the way!" was stolen and thus unusable. Kerry rushed the whole thing; even the faithful couldn't really get on board. It didn't make the necessary connections with those deep seated desires and fears. It just enumerated them in a superficial manner. Most everyone already knew it wouldn't be a barnburner and weren't watching anyway.
