Sorry, the misunderstanding was mine... when you said "John Edwards" in connection to your commentary on the Democrat Convention, I thought you were making some calvinistic reference to Breck Girl and Demo-Veep nominee John Edwards, not Puritan Johnathan Edwards.
Needless to say, that left me a bit confused ("Huh? John Edwards... Calvinist... What's Torie going on about? I thought John Edwards was a professed Methodist... etc., etc.")
Mea Maxima Culpa. ;-)
Typing "John" rather than "Jonathan" was just an accident (I was not even thinking The Candidate), but then I just ran with the joke. Why mess up a good thing? :)
Not me. I want to die quietly, peacefully, in my sleep... like my grandfather did.
Not, you know, screaming in terror like his passengers...
I know, I know... old joke.
But, I did recently dead-pan that line to a co-worker of mine (not, incidentally, an academically dull girl -- but if she weren't full-blooded Hispanic, I think she shoulda been a blonde)... she looked at me, aghast, and responded sympathetically, "Omigosh... I'm so sorry... Is that really how your grandfather died??"
I just stared at her.
Taking a full... ten... seconds... to catch on to the gag, she then screeched at me "You're AWFUL! Don't DO that to me!!"
Ah, the joys of being a downright cad...
